The required curriculum
for the major in athletic training consists of both classroom and clinical
education components. Students first acquire the requisite knowledge
and practice the appropriate skills in a carefully controlled classroom setting. Once students successfully complete a classroom course, they then
apply these skills in the "real world" environment of the athletic
training treatment facility, practice sites, and competition venues, but
continue to be under the direct supervision of a clinical instructor. Students are assigned to clinical experiences which will include exposure
to general medical conditions, upper extremity conditions, lower extremity
conditions, and to equipment intensive physical activities. Each
clinical experience level (I, II, III) is associated with a particular set
of classroom courses. Successful completion of the associated
classroom courses is required before enrolling in a specific clinical
experience course.
