Job Description:
FIRST AIDER –
ATHLETICS
Introduction
The intercollegiate athletic
program will hire a number of students, all of whom meet the
qualifications stated below, to serve as ATHLETIC FIRST AIDERS.
Athletic First Aiders are not meant to replace qualified,
license personnel, and will have strictly defined duties as listed
below.
Qualifications
Athletic First Aiders will:
- Be formally accepted to the
major in Athletic Training, and be in good academic standing at
Manchester College;
- Hold current certification in
American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED
or its equivalent;
- Be eligible for campus
employment at Manchester College.
Selection Process and Criteria
The professional athletic training
staff at Manchester College will select Athletic First Aiders in May
of each year for the following academic year. Their selection will
be based on the following factors:
Student schedule,
availability, interest, and willingness to travel
Record of athletic training
student clinical performance, behavior, and proficiency
completion in previous clinical education assignments at time of
application
Required clinical rotations
yet to be completed by athletic training students
Description of Responsibilities
The responsibilities of an Athletic
First Aider are:
To work under the direction of
the faculty/staff certified qthletic trainers at Manchester
College;
To render only
emergency and immediate first aid care to intercollegiate
athletic teams as assigned by the professional Athletic Training
staff at Manchester College;
a. Specifically
excluded activities are:
i. Creating, amending,
and overseeing rehabilitative exercise programs
ii. Creating,
amending, and overseeing functional progression programs
iii. Making "play" or
"no play" decisions
Travel with athletic teams as
assigned by a professional athletic training staff member
Athletic First Aiders will be
employed for a maximum of 15 hours per week when the College is
in session.
