Successful internships give students important career and networking opportunities.
Here are examples
of the internship experiences of some former and current students:
Laurie Gribschaw, Class of 2007,
spent the 2006 Summer Session completing an internship in the Department
of Physical Therapy, St. Anthony's Medical Center, Crown Point, IN.
Josh Scott, Class of 2007,
completed a Summer '06 internship with J. Robison Intensive Sport Camps,
working as an Athletic Training intern with ice hockey camps at the
University of Minnesota and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy,
New York.
Holly Smith, Class of 2007,
completed a Summer '06 internship with Delta Physical Therapy and Sports
Medicine, Delta, OH. Holly also was employed as an Athletic
Training intern with Athletes in Action, traveling to Brazil in
July.
Garth Heater, Class of 2007, was
employed by J. Robinson Intensive Sports Camps as an Athletic Training
intern this summer, working
at basketball camps in Minnesota and New York.
Josh Scott, Class of 2007 ,
completed a January Session '06 internship with the Fort Wayne, IN
Komets of the United Hockey League.
James Samuels, Class of 2006,
was a summer athletic training intern for the NFL
Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2004 season.
Missy Mickelini, ATC, Class of 2004,
completed a January 2004 internship in Industrial Athletic Training
with Indiana Physical Therapy, Ft. Wayne, IN.
Gusta Wayne, ATC, Class of 2004,
completed a January 2004 internship with Unity Sports Medicine,
Lafayette, IN.
Andrew Jackson, Class of 2004, was an athletic training intern with the Detroit Lions of the NFL for the spring and summer of 2003.
John Patton, ATC, Class of 2001, spent the 2001 January Session completing an internship in athletic training at Peru (IN) High School. He was supervised by Greg Badry,
ATC, MC Class of 1987, the Head Athletic Trainer at Peru.
Ryan Hedstrom, PhD, ATC, MC Class of 2000, served as an athletic training intern with the South Bend Silverhawks (Class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) in the summer of 1999.
Lou Bustos, ATC, MC Class of 2000, worked as an athletic training intern with the Class A Fort Wayne Wizards (San Diego Padres affiliate) in the summer of 1999.
Patrick Violette, ATC, MC Class of 1999, worked as a summer athletic training intern for the NFL San Diego Chargers for the 1998 season.
Michael Salazar, MS, ATC, MC Class of 1998, was one of four athletic training interns selected to work spring training for the Atlanta Braves organization in 1997.
Julie Davidson, ATC, MC Class of 1998, served as an athletic training intern at the Center for Sport and Physical Therapy in Wabash, Ind., an out-patient physical therapy facility.
Al Heminger, MS, ATC, MC Class of 1997, served as an athletic training intern with the Fort Wayne Komets of the
United Hockey League in January 1997. Al also served as a summer intern for the Indianapolis Colts in the 1998 pre-season.
Kurt Wilson, MS, ATC, MC Class of 1997, was chosen as one of four summer athletic training interns by the Indianapolis Colts to work the 1996 pre-season. His daily duties included injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of the squad members. Kurt also traveled to several pre-season contests, and worked several regular-season home games.
