Club Description
The Sport, Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) Club at Manchester College serves as the student professional organization within the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, and all majors and minors are encouraged to belong. It is recognized by the Indiana Association and the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The goals of the SHAPE Club are aimed at furthering leadership, service, and scholarship of each student member through regularly scheduled professional and recreational meetings, special activities, and committee work. To achieve these goals, an executive board that is comprised of a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, activity director and faculty advisor administers the organization. Each member is encouraged to become involved in some aspect of the operation of the organization.
Club meetings are held every month and usually involve a short business meeting and a professional presentation by a faculty member or community professional on diversified topics of interest of the members. Programs relate to some aspect of career preparation in athletic training, coaching, exercise science, fitness and/or physical education teaching.
The club has traditionally taken its service commitment to heart and has responded to requests for help on the departmental, athletic, college and community levels, as well as events within the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and its student section, the Council of Future Professionals. The SHAPE Club of Manchester College is considered one of the strongest student organizations within the state of Indiana.
