History Senior Andrew Haff wins Fulbright award
The faculty of the department of History and Political Science
congratulates senior history major Andrew Haff on winning a prestigious
Fulbright scholarship, the nation's pre-eminent award for international
study. Andrew will be teaching English in Vietnam.
Haff
is one of two Fulbright scholars from Manchester this year. Over the
last seven years, Manchester has produced twenty-five Fulbright fellows. Five of the college's 25 Fulbrights have been awarded to students majoring in
either History or Political
Science.

Student
presents at Peace and Justice Conference
Farida Adam
Political Science will be presenting a workshop entitled "A Silent
Cry" to the 6th Annual Peace and Social Justice Symposium at
Valparaiso University on November 10. The workshop focuses on the
suffering of the Cambodian people during the Pol Pot regime, and the
continued threats that Cambodian women and children face from
domestic violence, hunger, and lack of childcare.

Fall 2007
Professor participates in major conference
Dr.
Benson Onyeji served on the program
committee for the annual meeting of the African Studies Association,
held Oct. 18-21 in New York City. The conference was the largest
gathering of its type, featuring 731 papers and 212 panels and
roundtables. Serving as co-chair of the politics section, Dr. Onyeji
also presented “Globalization and the Localization of Politics in
Africa."
Department welcomes new faculty member
Joonseo Song will be joining us for the
2007-08 academic year to teach courses in Asian history. Welcome

publishes
journal articles
Two articles by Dr. Leonard Williams
have been published recently in academic journals. The September 2007
issue of New Political Science features an article
entitled “Anarchism Revived,”
which surveys contemporary anarchist thought in the U.S. The June 2007 issue of the
Journal of Political Ideologies
contains an article entitled “Abundance,
Lack, and Identity,” which explores issues related to identity through a study
of the autobiographies of David Brock and David Horowitz.
