Department of Education

 

Manchester University prepares students of ability and conviction for the professions in the field of teaching or related fields. Students have a variety of majors from which they can choose including Educational Studies and teaching degrees. The Education Department at Manchester embraces the University's liberal arts program, as well as the State of Indiana's requirements for licensing. At Manchester, students strive for excellence. Because of the rigorous program, Manchester successfully graduates effective professionals ready for diverse settings working with children and young adults. Manchester is accredited by NCATE, the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

All education majors in Manchester University’s Education Department, whether those seeking licensure or not, can expect to become involved in the public schools as early as the first year. During the last academic year, the 225 students enrolled in education classes had more than 350 student field experiences that totaled more than 27,000 hours of classroom experience.

The Manchester University Teacher Education program also is known for high expectations in student teaching. Its graduates are highly regarded, as indicated by a constant 90+ percent placement rate over the past five years. Students involved in the Educational Studies program complete engaging internships based on their own career goals. Many find employment in childcare programs, YMCA coordinators, etc.
