Biology Major Requirements

The Biology Department offers a Baccalaureate Program for undergraduate students. Below is a listing of requirements for graduation with a Biology Major.

47- 50 Credit hours required

  • BIOL 107 - Principles of Biology I
  • BIOL 109 - Principles of Biology II
  • BIOL 221 - Biomolecules
  • BIOL 330 - Invertebrate Zoology
  • BIOL 360 - Principles of Genetics
  • BIOL 365 - Cell Biology
  • BIOL 395 Orientation to Research
  • One course selected from:
    • BIOL 240 - Taxonomy of Vascular Plants
    • BIOL 242 - Plant Diversity
    • BIOL 324 - Plant Physiology
  • One course selected from:
    • BIOL 363 - Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy
    • BIOL 420 - Vertebrate Physiology
  • One course selected from:
    • BIOL 311 - Principles of Ecology
    • BIOL 412 - Freshwater Biology
  • One year chemistry with lab selected from:
    • CHEM 103 (Intro. to Inorganic Chem.) and CHEM 104 (Intro. to Organic Chem)
    • CHEM 111 (Fund. of Chemistry I) and CHEM 211 (Fund. of Chemistry II)
  • Research or Internship selected from:
    • BIOL 495 (Senior Research I) and BIOL 496 (Senior Research II)
    • BIOL 475 Senior Internship in Biology
  • Four hours of electives in Biology
  • All Biology majors must complete a Senior Comprehensive Experience requirement prior to graduation.
