Kemper Fellowships

Manchester College has been the managing partner in an informal nine-college consortium to work with some of each college’s very best students. Offered to sophomores, the program has been supported for two years with a grant of $96,000 from the James S. Kemper Foundation. Each student is supported with an “Imagination grant” to try a project that would be otherwise impossible. Afterwards, all of the Kemper Fellows come together for a week in Chicago for time with other academically-gifted students.

Several students from the Department of Modern Languages received Kemper awards:

2002:
Hannah Ditmars (2004), a sociology and French major, attended a summer program in American Sign Language at Gallaudet University.
Lindsey Gorrell (2004), a Peace Studies and Spanish major, attended a Latin American Student Symposium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Tee de Monterrey in Mexico.

2003:
Wendy Matheny (2005), a major in French and Political Science, attended the International Student Symposium on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution in the Hague, the Netherlands.
