Kenapocomoco
Newsnotes

March 2008

The people in the Peace Studies Office bring the Kenapocomoco Coalition Newsnotes to you monthly during the academic year. The purpose is to inform students, faculty, staff, and other interested folks of scheduled events and activities within the department and pass along other  relevant information. The things written in the newsletter do not necessarily reflect the thoughts, opinions, and beliefs of everyone in the Peace Studies office or Kenapocomoco Coalition. If you have something you would like to add to the newsletter, please contact Audrey Hampshire, the Peace Studies intern, head cook, and editor of the Kenapocomoco Newsnotes. E-mail: anhampshire@manchester.edu or call x4151. Thanks.

5 Years Too Many!- Wednesday, March 19 - Washington, D.C.

United for Peace and Justice invites you to help us build what could be the largest single day of nonviolent civil disobedience and direct action against the war and occupation. On Wednesday, March 19th -- the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq -- people from every corner of the country will gather at several sites in the nation's capital to focus attention on the pillars of support for the war: the institutions, government agencies, and private corporations that keep this war going. Our actions will highlight the real costs of the war while offering a vision of a more just and sustainable world, a world at peace. For more information please visit www.5yearstoomany.org

The Scout Fuller Fund for Social Justice

2008 Summer Service Award

The purpose of the 2008 Summer Service Award is to enable a Manchester College student, who otherwise could not afford to do so, to work as a summer intern or volunteer with a not-for-profit organization that works to improve the lives of others. Preference is given to applicants with financial need who demonstrate a strong commitment to peace and justice.

The service experience will take place during summer 2008; will consist of full-time work lasting four weeks or more; and will preferably be located within the United States. The award recipient chooses their own placement, in consultation with the Scout Fuller Fund officers and directors, who will help find a suitable organization and make arrangements. She/he will receive up to $2,000 to cover expenses related to the service experience (travel, lodging, food, etc.) and an additional cash award of up to $3,000 to help defray college-related expenses for the 2008-2009 academic year.
