2.28.12 - FLORES NAMED HCAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR, MOSS AND SPINDLER EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference released the 2012 men's basketball All-Conference awards on Tuesday, naming Greg Flores the HCAC Freshman of the Year, Jordan Moss First Team All-Conference and Jason Spindler to the honorable mention team.

Flores earned a starting roll in the final 13 games for Manchester, and ranked third in scoring for the Spartans as he averaged 9.7 points per game. He ranked first in the HCAC in three-point field goal percentage at 51.5 percent, and was among the conference leaders in field goal percentage in league play at 50.8 percent. He added 16 assists and nine steals on the year.

Jordan Moss picked up his third All-Conference award as he was named First Team All-Conference. Moss led Manchester in scoring with a 16.9 points, 6.2 rebound per game average and leaves Manchester tied for 14th place in all-time scoring with 1,211 points. Moss was the 2010-11 HCAC MVP and a First Team All-Conference and Third Team All-American selection, and was named honorable mention in 2010.

Jason Spindler picked up honorable mention All-Conference honors. Spindler leaves Manchester with a school record 200 blocked shots. He was second on the team in scoring with a 10.8 points, 7.2 rebounds per game average. He added 42 blocked shots and 22 assists on the year.

Manchester finished 11-14 overall, 9-9 in the HCAC, tying for sixth place in the league standings.

2.18.12 - MOSS POSTS 20 POINTS, SPINDLER 19 IN SEASON FINALE 70-67 WIN OVER EARLHAM

Manchester's men's basketball team picked up a 70-67 win over Earlham Saturday, but the win wasn't enough for Manchester to secure the sixth and final spot for the HCAC Tournament as Defiance locked up the six-seed with their win over Franklin this afternoon.

Earlham jumped out to a 15-4 lead to start the game, but Manchester tied the game up at 24-24 with just under five minutes left in the half. Earlham closed out the half on a 12-6 run to take a 36-30 halftime lead. A Greg Flores three-pointer midway in the second half gave Manchester the lead for good with a 52-50 advantage and pushed it up to as many as eight points. Earlham staged a late comeback, getting to within one point with 1:41 to go, but couldn't get any closer giving Manchester the 70-67 win.

Jordan Moss scored 20 points in his final game as a Spartan, hitting 7-11 shots from the floor, and posted a double-double with 10 rebounds. Moss leaves MC ranked 14th in career scoring with 1,211 points. Jason Spindler added 19 points in his final game as a Spartan, hitting 7-14 shots from the floor and collected five rebounds and notched his school record setting 200th career blocked shot. Greg Flores added 10 points and five rebounds, hitting 4-7 field goals, including 2-3 three pointers.

Manchester ends the year tied for sixth place in the HCAC with a 9-9 league record an 11-14 overall record.

2.15.12 - MOSS SCORES 26 AS MANCHESTER DEFEATS ANDERSON 81-71
Manchester's men's basketball team picked up an 81-71 win on Senior Night, as the men's team held their final home game of the season Wednesday.

Manchester used a 14-3 run late in the first half to break a 21-21 tie and took a 39-32 lead at the half. MC extended its lead to a 59-46 advantage midway in the second half, but Anderson used a 10-2 run to pull within five points 61-56 with seven minutes remaining. A lay up, pair of free throws and a steal by Senior Jordan Moss pushed MC's lead back to 10 points as he scored eight points in the final five minutes to seal the 81-71 win.

Moss ended the night with 26 points, hitting 10-16 from the floor and 6-10 free throws. He added four rebounds and five steals on the night. Grant Newlin added 15 points and seven rebounds with four assists, while Jason Spindler and Greg Flores each scored eight points each. Spindler added four rebounds and a blocked shot on the night. David House posted seven points and eight rebounds with a steal.

Manchester improves to 10-14 on the year, 8-9 in the HCAC with one final game left in the regular season. The Spartans will travel to Earlham on Saturday.

2.11.12 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO HCAC LEADING TRANSYLVANIA 72-52
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to conference leading Transylvania on Saturday 72-52. MC held a 21-16 advantage midway in the first half, but Transy tied the game at 27-27 with under four minutes remaining and closed out the first half to take a 29-24 lead. The Pioneers opened the second half with a 22-4 run to take a 51-30 lead with 14:52 remaining. Transy shot 9-16 from the three-point arc in the second half, and held MC to 27 percent shooting from the floor to take the 72-52 final.

Jason Spindler led Manchester with 17 points, hitting 5-8 shots from the floor and 7-12 free throws. He added four rebounds and a blocked shot. Greg Flores added 11 points on 4-8 shooting to go with his three rebounds. Jordan Moss was held to eight points, and added six rebounds and three assists.

Manchester falls to 9-14 on the year, 7-9 in conference play. Manchester sits in a three-way tie for the sixth and final slot in the HCAC Tournament and has two regular season games remaining. MC will host Anderson on Wednesday for Senior Night and travels to Earlham on Saturday.

2.8.12 - FLORES NAILS GAME WINNING THREE AS MANCHESTER POSTS 63-62 WIN OVER BLUFFTON

A sluggish start for the men's basketball team results in a thrilling 63-62 win by Manchester in the final seconds as First Year player Greg Flores hits a deep three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining to defeat Bluffton. Manchester trailed Bluffton 16-2 near the 10 minute mark of the first half, but put together a 17-4 run over the next five minutes to cut it to a 20-19 Bluffton lead. The Beavers settled for a 28-25 lead at the break. Manchester took control early in the second half, taking a 42-36 lead with 13 minutes remaining. Both teams battled back and forth throughout most of the second half, resulting in a 60-60 tie with 1:33 remaining. Bluffton's Ryan Ebbeskotte hit a pair of free throws to take a two-point lead, and the Beavers took control of the game with 40 seconds remaining following a missed shot attempt by Jordan Moss. A missed three by Bluffton with nine seconds left set up the Greg Flores game-winning three pointer on a Grant Newlin assist with 1.1 seconds remaining to give Manchester the 63-62 win.

Moss led the team with 21 points, making 9-11 free throws and adding 11 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Greg Flores ended the night with 18 points, hitting 3-4 three-pointers and had two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Jason Spindler netted 10 points and had seven rebounds on the night.

Manchester improves to 9-13 on the year, 7-8 in the conference standings with three games left in the regular season. Manchester travels to Transylvania on Saturday, returns home Wednesday to face Anderson and will close out the regular season next Saturday at Earlham.



2.4.12 - MANCHESTER HOLDS ON TO DEFEAT FRANKLIN 64-63
Manchester's men's basketball team posted a 64-63 win over Franklin on Saturday, leaving Manchester one game out of the sixth and final spot for the HCAC Tournament with four games remaining in the regular season.

Manchester took a 29-24 lead into halftime, shooting 56 percent from the floor and holding Franklin to just 41 percent. In the second half, the Spartans let the Grizzlies back in the game, as they led MC 51-47 with 10 minutes remaining. Manchester pressed on over the next four minutes to take a 62-53 lead, and was able to hold off a 10-2 run by Franklin to close the game with the one point, 64-63 win.

Jason Spindler led the team with 21 points, hitting 9-14 shots from the floor and 3-4 free throws. He added eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Greg Flores added 13 points and three rebounds on 6-8 shooting, while Jordan Moss chipped in 12 points and five rebounds to go with his seven assists and three steals.

Manchester improves to 8-13 on the year, 6-8 in conference action. Manchester will travel to Bluffton on Wednesday and Transylvania on Saturday.

2.1.12 - LATE BASKET BY DEFIANCE LIFTS YELLOW JACKETS TO A 57-56 WIN OVER MANCHESTER

Manchester men's basketball team fell to host Defiance 57-56 in conference action Wednesday night. Manchester shot 54 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 33-26 lead into halftime. Defiance responded in the second half to take a 36-35 lead four minutes into the second half. Manchester regained control of the game with a 51-47 lead at the 6:00 mark and both teams battled for control of the lead until a Brice Lantz layup at 1:45 remaining gave MC a 56-55. A missed one-and-one free throw by Manchester with 10 seconds remaining allowed Defiance's Logan Wolfrum time to hit the eventual game winner with five seconds left on the clock. Jason Spindler's eight footer at the buzzer just missed to give Defiance the 57-56 win.

Spindler ended the game with 24 points and six rebounds and a blocked shot. He hit 9-13 attempts from the floor and 6-10 free throws. Jordan Moss added 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Manchester falls to 7-13 on the year, 5-8 in the HCAC. They return to action at home on Saturday as they host Franklin starting at 4 p.m., immediately following the Manchester/Franklin women's basketball game slated for a 2 p.m. start.

1.28.12 - HANOVER AVENGES DECEMBER LOSS WITH 61-45 WIN OVER MANCHESTER
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to host Hanover 61-45 in conference action Saturday, avenging a 60-59 win by Manchester back in December.

Hanover went up by as many as 19 in the first half and settled for a 32-17 lead at the break, holding MC to just 25 percent field goal shooting in the first half. The Panthers held Manchester to just 32 percent shooting in the second half to take the 61-45 final.

Jason Spindler led Manchester with 19 points and had five rebounds. Jordan Moss added 16 points and 11 points, hitting 3-5 three point attempts. David House added nine rebounds to lead the team while scoring three points and dishing out a pair of assists.

Manchester falls to 7-12 on the year, 5-7 in the HCAC. They will travel to Defiance on Wednesday and host Franklin on Saturday.

1.25.12 - MOSS SCORES 15 IN 56-53 LOSS TO ROSE-HULMAN
The Spartan men's basketball team suffered a 56-53 loss to Rose-Hulman at home on Wednesday night. As both teams traded scores early in the first half, Manchester took a 31-24 lead into the break, shooting 59 percent from the floor.

In the second half, Rose-Hulman took the lead for good at the 7:39 mark on a three-pointer to go ahead 46-45 and held on to take the 56-53 win despite a couple of Jordan Moss three-pointers late and a Spartans three-point attempt at the end of regulation missing its mark.

Moss finished with 15 points, 4-9 from the floor with six assists, three rebounds and a steal. Jason Spindler added 11 points and nine rebounds to go with his three blocked shots, and Grant Newlin posted 10 points with three reobunds and two assists. Greg Flores had eight points with five rebounds, a steal and an assist.

Manchester falls to 7-11 on the year, 5-6 in the HCAC. They will travel to Hanover on Saturday at 5 p.m., immediately following the women's basketball action at 3 p.m.

1.21.12 - THREE SPARTANS SCORE OVER 20 AS MC DEFEATS MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 72-63
Manchester's men's team posted a 72-63 win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday as three Spartans posted 20 or more points in the win. Manchester came out in the second half, trailing 27-23 at the break, and shot 71 percent from the floor in the second half to pick up the 72-63 win.

Jason Spindler led all scorers with 24 points, hitting 10-13 from the floor and 4-7 free throws. He added 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot. Greg Flores added 21 points, hitting 8-10 from the floor and 5-6 from behind the arc. He added six rebounds, three steals and an assist. Jordan Moss also scored 21 points, hitting 7-14 of his attempts and 7-10 free throws. He added four rebounds, six assist and a steal. Moss moves into 24th place in all-time scoring with 1,080 points, and looks to close in on Rickey Miller's 1,083 and Bill Dodd's 1,089 points Wednesday against Rose-Hulman.

Manchester improves to 7-10 in the year, 5-5 in the conference and will face Rose-Hulman at home on Wednesday, starting at 7:30 p.m.

1.18.12 - SPINDLER HITS GAME WINNER AS MANCHESTER DEFEATS BLUFFTON 59-58

Manchester's men's basketball team posted a 59-58 win over Bluffton at home on Wednesday night, as senior Jason Spindler hit the game winning jumper with seven seconds remaining, and blocked Bluffton's last-second attempt to seal the win for Manchester.

Manchester trailed 30-23 with 3:23 remaining in the first half and used a 14-0 run to take a 37-30 lead at halftime after shooting 15-25 (60 percent) from the field. In the second half, Bluffton chipped away at the Manchester lead to take a 58-53 lead with 4:35 remaining in the game. Jordan Moss's three-pointer cut the Bluffton lead to two, 58-56 win 3:58 to go, and Jason Spindler hit the front of a one-and-one to pull to within one with 2:21 on the clock and a 58-57 Bluffton advantage. As both teams went scoreless over the next two minutes of play, Moss found an open Spindler with seven seconds to go to give Manchester a 59-58 victory.

Spindler led Mc with 16 points on the night, hitting 6-8 field goals and added eight rebounds and five blocked shots. Greg Flores chipped in 14 points with a pair of steals and an assist. Moss and Grant Newlin each scored 12 points, Moss adding six rebounds on 5-9 shooting with four assists and a steal, while Newlin was 5-11 from the floor with two steals and a two assists.

Manchester improves to 6-10 on the year, 4-5 in the HCAC, reaching the midway point of the conference season. The Spartans resume play on Saturday as they host Mount St. Joseph starting at 5 p.m., immediately following the women's basketball game starting at 3 p.m.

1.14.12 - FRANKLIN POSTS 63-47 WIN OVER MANCHESTER
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to Franklin 63-47 in conference action from Franklin on Saturday. Manchester found themselves down down 17-2 the first five minutes into the contest, but chipped the Franklin lead to just seven, 32-25 with two minutes left in the first half before settling for a Grizzlie 36-26 halftime lead.

Franklin went up 50-33 at the 10:48 mark in the second half before Manchester's Jordan Moss, Grant Newlin and Greg Flores put together a 9-0 run to make it a 50-41 Franklin lead with 7:09 remaining. Franklin bounced back to make it a 61-43 game with 2:49 remaining and settled for the 63-47 win.

Jordan Moss led the Spartans with 13 points, and had four rebounds, two steals and an assist. Greg Flores and Grant Newlin added nine points each, with Flores hitting 3-6 from the field and 1-2 free throws. Newlin was 4-6 from the floor. Jason Spindler added five points and seven rebounds with three blocked shots and a steal.

Manchester falls to 5-10 on the year, 3-5 in the HCAC. They will return to conference action at home on Wednesday as they host Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

1.11.12 - MOSS NETS 27 POINTS IN MC'S 81-67 WIN OVER DEFIANCE

Manchester's men's basketball team picked up an 81-67 win over Defiance in conference action from Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Wednesday. The Spartans opened the contest with a 22-8 run midway in the half, but Defiance scored nine unanswered to pull within five 22-17 two minutes later. MC closed out the first half with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 38-25 lead at the break. The Spartans captialized on a 14-2 run midway in the second half to take a 61-41 lead with 9:38 remaining and held on to post the 81-67 win.

Jordan Moss scored 27 points for the second-straight game, hitting 12-16 shots from the floor and 3-3 free throws. He added six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Grant Newlin added 13 points and six rebounds with an assis, Greg Flores added 12 points and two assists, and Caleb Jackson scored 11 points on 4-5 shooting, including 2-3 from behind the three-point arc. Jason Spindler added seven points, 12 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for the Spartans.

Manchester improves to 5-9 on the year, 3-4 in the HCAC. They will travel to Franklin on Saturday in doubleheader action with the women's basketball team.

1.7.12 - MOSS SCORES CAREER 1,000TH POINT AS MANCHESTER DEFEATS EARLHAM 62-48

Manchester College senior guard Jordan Moss (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) became the 28th Spartan in school history to join the 1,000 club as he scored 27 points and added 17 rebounds in Manchester's 62-48 win over conference opponent Earlham on Saturday.

Manchester opened the first half with a 22-11 lead and settled for a 33-25 lead at the break. Manchester held the Quakers to 32 percent shooting in the first half and 28 percent in the second half as Earlham committed just four turnovers and the Spartans just eight in the game.

Moss reached his 1,000th point on a pair of made free throws in the second half and ended the game with 27 points on 10-18 shooting. He notched 17 rebounds and had an assist. Greg Flores added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Jason Spindler had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with his three blocked shots.

Manchester improves to 4-9 on the year, 2-4 in the HCAC. They will host Defiance on Wednesday.

1.4.12 - SPARTANS FALL TO ANDERSON 72-58
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to host Anderson University 72-58 in conference action Wednesday night. The Spartans fell behind 24-15 midway in the first half, and scored seven straight points to close out the first half trailing 40-32. Anderson used an 18-4 run late in the second half to take the 72-58 win.

Greg Flores led Manchester with 13 points, hitting 5-9 from the floor and 2-3 three-pointers. He added three steals and two rebounds. Jordan Moss was 6-11 from the field for 12 points. He added four rebounds and three assists. Brice Lantz also scored 12 points for MC, going 4-9 from the floor and added three rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Manchester drops to 3-9 on the year, 1-4 in the HCAC. They will face Earlham College in conference action Saturday at MC's Stauffer-Wolfe Arena starting at 3 p.m.

12.30.11 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO NORTH CENTRAL 62-38
Manchester's men's team fell to host North Central 62-38 in action Friday night. Manchester trailed 34-14 at the half, as North Central held MC to 30 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and 33 percent for the game.

Jordan Moss led MC with nine points and had five rebounds. Grant Newlin added eight points on 3-4 shooting, hitting 2-3 three pointers and added a steal. Matt Morris chipped in six points, three rebounds and two assists.


Manchester falls to 3-8 on the year, and will return to conference action Wednesday as they travel to Anderson.

12.17.11 - SPARTANS FALL TO TO MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 57-52
Manchester's men's basketball team overcame a 31-20 halftime deficit to tie the game up at 46-46 as MC's Caleb Jackson connected on his fourth three-pointer of the game to help Manchester cap a 13-2 run, but the Lions held on to take a 57-52 conference win against Manchester.

Jackson ended the game 4-6 from the three-point arc to finish for a team high 12 points. He added four rebounds and an assist. Jordan Moss and Jason Spindler added 11 points each, as Moss finished 3-4 from the floor and 5-8 at the free throw line. He had eight rebounds and four assists. Spindler added nine rebounds and was 5-8 from the floor. Matt Morris ended with eight points on 4-8 shooting and had five rebounds.

Manchester falls to 3-7 on the year, 1-3 in the HCAC. They will travel to North Central on Dec. 30.
12.10.11 - LATE TRANSYLVANIA RUN LIFTS PIONEERS OVER MANCHESTER 68-62

Manchester dropped a 68-62 conference match-up to undefeated Transylvania on Saturday. Manchester was down as many as five points in the first half, but Grant Newlin's free throws and three pointer in the final three minutes of play cut the lead to one at the break, 32-31 in favor of Transylvania. The Spartans jumped to a four-point lead early in the second half, and after the game's 12th tie at 54-54 with 4:27 to go, the Pioneers scored eight unanswered to take a 62-54 lead with 1:19 remaining. Manchester got a three-point play from Jordan Moss and a thre-pointer by Matt Morris to make it a two-point econtest with 38 seconds to go, but Transy hit 6-6 free throws to close the game and pick up the 68-62 win.

Jordan Moss led MC with 17 points, hitting 5-11 from the floor and 6-6 at the free throw line. he added six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Caleb Jackson picked up nine points off the bench, hitting 3-4 three-pointers, while Matt Morris also added nine points on 4-8 shooting with four assists and a steal. Colin Witte and Brandon Kinsey had eight points each.

Manchester drops to 3-6 on the year, 1-2 in conference play. They will travel to Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

12.7.11 - MC FALLS TO ROSE-HULMAN 59-29
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to Rose-Hulman 59-29 in conference action Wednesday night. Jordan Moss scored 21 of the 29 points scored by Manchester. Moss finished 9-15 from the floor as MC finished 10-48 from the floor as a team. Jason Spindler added eight rebounds, two points and two assists for MC.

The Spartans fall to 3-5 on the year, 1-1 in the conference. They will host Transylvania on Saturday.

12.3.11 - SPARTANS RALLY TO DEFEAT HANOVER 60-59

Manchester's men's basketball team picked up a 60-59 win over Hanover to start league play on Saturday. Manchester trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and allowed Hanover to take a 38-27 lead at the break. Manchester overcame an eight-point deficit at the 11 minute mark with the score 47-39 to take a 50-49 lead with just under five minutes remaining. Hanover reclaimed a six point lead with 1:20 to go in the game, but three-pointers by Brandon Kinsey and Colin Witte cut the Panther lead to a 59-58 advantage with 23 seconds to go. MC put the ball in the hands of Jordan Moss in the final seconds, who drew a foul and conntested on two free throws with five seconds to go, giving MC the 60-59 win.

Moss ended the game with 13 points and nine assists. Matt Morris added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Silas Sims added 11 points on 4-5 shooting and 3-3 three-point shooting. Brandon Kinsey added 10 points and six rebounds, while Jason Spindler added 11 rebounds and five points.

The Spartans improve to 3-4 on the year, 1-0 in the conference. They will face Rose-Hulman on the road Wednesday.


11.27.11 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO TRINE 73-61 IN HCAC/MIAA CHALLEGENE
MC's men's basketball team fell to host Trine University in Sunday's second round of the HCAC/MIAA Challenge. Trine battled back from a 17-10 deficit to take a 29-26 lead at the half thanks to 19 points off the bench for the Thunder. After the Spartans tied the game up at 33-33 with 16 minutes remaining, Trine went on a 20-1 run over the next seven minutes to take a 53-34 lead and held on for the 73-61win.

Jordan Moss led MC with 15 points, hitting 7-12 shots from the floor and added three assists. Brandon Kinsey added 13 points, while Jason Spindler added 10 points and 12 rebounds with two blocked shots.

Manchester falls to 2-4 on the year and will return to action Saturday as they start conference play and hosts Hanover starting at 3 p.m.

11.26.11 - MANCHESTER TAKES 71-67 WIN OVER KALAMAZOO AT HCAC/MIAA CHALLENGE
Manchester's men's basketball team snapped a three-game skid on Saturday as they posted a 71-67 win over Kalamazoo at the HCAC/MIAA Conference Challenge hosted by Trine University. A quick 9-0 run by Manchester to start the game soon turned into an 11-11 tie, followed by another run by Manchester to take a 21-11 lead with 9:32 left in the first half. MC settled for a 34-29 lead at the half.

Manchester took a 48-41 lead with 10:45 left, but Kalamazoo tied the game at 51-51, and the game's sixth tie at 66-66 with a 1:35 remaining was followed by a Silas Sims layup and a pair of free throws by Jason Spindler gave Manchester the four-point win.

Jordan Moss exploded for 26 points, hitting 9-13 shots from the floor and 8-12 free throws. He added five rebounds and four assists. Jason Spindler added seven points and 10 rebounds while Brandon Kinsey added 10 points and three assists.

The win marks head coach Brad Nadborne's 100th career win for the year. Currenty in his 8th year at Manchester, Nadborne spent one year at Wisconsin-LaCrosse and is now 100-115. He needs just six more wins to reach his 100th win as a coach for MC.

Manchester improves to 2-3 on the year and will return to action Sunday as they face host Trine University in the second game of the HCAC/MIAA Championship starting at 4 p.m.


11.22.11 - SPARTANS FALL TO #25 WHEATON 82-52

Manchester fell to #25 ranked Wheaton College 82-52 in road action from Wheaton Tuesday night. After starting the game with a 4-0 lead, Wheaton exploded offensively to take a 38-19 lead at the half thanks in part to 52 percent shooting from the floor and holding MC to 35 percent. Wheaton pulled away in the second half, taking a 75-35 lead with eight minutes remaining. Manchester closed out the half with a 17-7 run for the 82-52 Wheaton final.

Jordan Moss led Manchester with 21 points, hitting 8-14 from the floor and 5-9 free throws. Moss added five rebounds, two steals and two assists. Jason Spindler had 10 points and four rebounds, hitting 5-6 from the floor and had two blocked shots. Matt Morris added nine poitns and five rebounds with a pair of steals, while David House went 3-4 from the floor for ssix points and five rebounds.

Manchester falls to 1-3 on the year, and will take part in the HCAC/MIAA Challenge hosted by Trine University. Manchester will face Kalamazoo on Saturday, and squares off against host Trine on Sunday.

11.19.11 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO MACMURRAY 76-73 IN CONSOLATION OF ILLINOIS COLLEGE TOURNAMENT
Manchester's men's basketball team fell to MacMurray 76-73 in Saturday's consolation game of the 2011 Illinois College Bille Messier Tournament.

Manchester led by as many as eight points in the first half as they took a 32-24 lead with under four minutes to go, but MacMurray cut it to a 38-34 MC halftime lead. The Spartans went up by as many as 11-points with 8:40 to go, holding a 61-50 lead before MacMurray went on a 26-10 run to take a 76-71 lead with 18 seconds to go. Jordan Moss's three-pointer with seven seconds remaining pulled MC within two, but it wasn't enough as MacMurray walked away with a 76-73 win.

Moss ended the game with 26 points, hitting 13-16 free throw attempts and had nine rebounds, and six assists. Jason Spindler added 13 points and 11 rebounds with five assists and two blocks, hitting 6-8 from the floor and was named to the All-Tournament team. Brice Lantz added 11 points and Brandon Kinsey chipped in 10.

Manchester falls to 1-2 on the year and faces three road games next week, including a stop in Wheaton on Tuesday night, and will take part in the HCAC/MIAA Challenge hosted by Trine on Saturday and Sunday. MC will face Kalamazoo on Saturday and Trine on Sunday.



11.18.11 - SPARTANS FALL TO ILLINOIS COLLEGE 66-43
Manchester dropped a 66-43 contest to host Illinois College at the 2011 Bill Messier Illinois College Tournament on Friday.

Illinois College jumped out to an early 14-4 lead and maintained control to take a 37-25 lead at the half. IC used a 13-6 run to start the second half to take a 50-31 advantage with 11 minutes to go before Manchester used an 8-0 run to cut the gap to a 50-39 Illinois College finished the game with a 16-4 run to pick up the 66-43 win.

Matt Morris led Manchester with 12 points, hitting 6-10 from the floor and added eight rebounds. Brandon Kinsey had 11 points, hitting 3-6 three pointers and added two assists, while Jason Spindler finished the game 5-9 from the floor for 10 points. He had five points, three assists and three blocked shots.

MC falls to 1-1 on the year and will face MacMurray in Saturday's consolation game starting at 2 p.m. CST.

11.15.11-MANCHESTER POSTS 63-47 WIN IN SEASON OPENER
Manchester's men's basketball team posted a 63-47 win over Concordia University-Chicago from MC's Stauffer-Wolfe Arena on Tuesday night.

Manchester jumped out to 23-6 lead with 8:30 remaining in the first half and took a 34-20 lead into the half. and went up by as many as 21 points with a 53-32 lead in route to the 63-47 win. Jordan Moss led MC with 14 points, hitting 6-11 shots from the floor and added five rebounds and four assists. Colin Witte added 13 points, hitting 4-6 shots from the floor. Matt Morris went 3-6 from the floor for eight points and tied Joel Sovine for a team-high seven rebounds. Jason Spindler added eight points and six rebounds with two blocked shots.

Manchester starts the year 1-0 overall. They will travel to the Illinois College/Bill Merris Tournament starting at 7:30 p.m. CST Friday, where they face host Illinois College.

11.7.11 - SPARTANS FALL TO AUSTIN PEAY 98-55

Manchester's men's basketball team fell to Austin Peay 98-55 in exhibition action from the campus of Austin Peay and the Dunn Center on Monday night.

Manchester trailed 11-6 after Colin Witte connected on a three-pointer at the 15:43 mark, and were only down nine points, 25-16 with 10:36 to go following a Matt Morris jumper before the Governors closed out the first half with a 22-11 run to take a 57-27 lead into halftime. Austin Peay went on a 15-2 run to start the second half to take a 72-29 advantage and held for the 98-55 win over Manchester.

Matt Morris, Matt Layman and Andrew Hartsel scored nine points apiece for Manchester. Morris was 4-8 from the floor and 1-2 from the three-point arc, while Layman went 3-5 from the floor and 3-3 at the free throw line and added four rebounds. Hartsel went 4-6 from the field and had two steals. Jordan Moss had seven points, four assists and three rebounds in the contest.

Manchester's regular season gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 15 as they host Concordia University-Chicago in the tailend of a doubleheader scheduled with the women's basketball team as they host Calvin starting at 6 p.m.

11.7.11 - MANCHESTER TO FACE AUSTIN PEAY IN EXHIBITION ACTION
Manchester College’s men’s basketball team will travel to face Division I Austin Peay University Monday night in exhibition action from Austin Peay’s Dunn Center (Dave Aaron Arena).

Manchester is ranked 37th in the Preseason D3hoops.com polls and are coming off a 22-7 season, highlighted by a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships. The Spartans advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Division III tournament, where they fell to national runner-up Wooster by two points.

Manchester returns Third Team All-American guard Jordan Moss, who enters his fourth year with the program. Moss was named HCAC Player of the Year as he averaged 13.3 points per contest for MC last year and shot 58 percent from the floor. Joining Moss on the court for their senior seasons include 6'10 center shot blocker Jason Spindler, 6'7 forward Matt Morris and 6'5 guard Matt Layman. MC also has three other players returning to the team this year including juniors Joel Sovine, Andrew Hartsel and sophomore Colin Witte.

Austin Peay is coming off a 20-14 season last year and notched a 107-96 win over Central Missouri in exhibition action last Thursday. The Governors are picked as favorites to win the Ohio Valley Conference title this year. Newly appointed Manchester College assistant coach Dugan Lyne served as a student assistant with the men’s basketball program at Austin Peay for four years before coming to Manchester.

10.25.11 - MANCHESTER RANKS 37TH IN D3HOOPS.COM PRESEASON POLL
The Manchester College men's basketball team received 38 votes in the annual preseason rankings distributed by d3hoops.com on Monday, which ranks them 37th in the poll and ranks 36th in the DIII News Monthly Newsletter.

9.1.11 - LYNE NAMED ASSISTANT BASKETBALL COACH
Head men's basketball coach Brad Nadborne has named Dugan Lyne as his new assistant coach for the 2011-12 season. Lyne comes to Manchester after spending one year at Westminster as an assistant men's basketball coach and head men's golf coach. Lyne spent four seasons as a student assistant for the men's basketball program at Austin Peay, where they won two consecutive OVC regular season titles and a trip to the 2008 NCAA Tournament. He was a graduate assistant for one season and the director of basketball operations for a second year following is undergraduate degree for the Governors.

Lyne earned both his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and graduate degree in Health and Human Performance from Austin Peay. He will also serve as the Fall gameday coordinator at Manchester and as an adjunct faculty member in the Exercise and Sports Science department.

MANCHESTER ENDS SEASON RANKED 18TH BY D3HOOPS.COM

The Manchester College men's basketball team is ranked No. 18  in the final D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll for the 2010-11 season. Manchester ended the season with a 22-7 overall record, fourth best in program history, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament for the fifth time in the school’s history.

Manchester claimed the school’s first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship since 2001 outright in the final game of the regular season with a 79-62 win over Transylvania, and won MC’s first HCAC Tournament title since 1995 with a 79-69 win over second-seeded Hanover. Manchester defeated Bethany College (W. Va.) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, before falling to national runner-up #2 Wooster 47-45 in second round NCAA action at Wooster.

Junior guard Jordan Moss was named Third Team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, a First Team All-Region selection by the NABC and was a Third Team All-Region member with D3hoops.com. He was also named HCAC Player of the Year and was joined on the All-Conference squad with teammates Tyler Henn (2nd Team), Nathan Ferch and Tyler Delauder (honorable mention). Head Coach Brad Nadborne was named both HCAC and NABC Midwest Region Coach of the Year.



MOSS NAMED THIRD TEAM ALL-AMERICAN

Manchester College junior Jordan Moss was named State Farm Coaches' Division III All-America Third Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches on Thursday. Moss recently was one of six players named to the NABC Midwest All-Region Team earlier in the week.

Moss led the men's basketball team to a 22-7 record, the fourth best in MC school history, and captured the school's first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title since 2001 and the first HCAC Tournament championship since 1995. Manchester advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament, picking up a first round win over Bethany, 70-58 before falling to Final Four bound Wooster, 47-45 in second round action.

Moss was named the HCAC 2011 Player of the Year and was part of the HCAC First Team All-Conference squad. The junior Columbia City, Ind., native led the Spartans in scoring with 13.3 points per game, shooting .576 from the floor. He averaged 4.8 rebounds, three assists and nearly one steal per game at the guard position. He was also recognized by D3hoops.com as a Third Team All-Region selection. He is the first All-American for men's basketball since Dick Harris was NAIA All-American in 1968.


3.15.11 - MOSS NAMED FIRST TEAM ALL-REGION, NADBORNE REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR

3.5.11 - #5 WOOSTER SNAPS MC'S 12-GAME WIN STREAK WITH A 47-45 WIN IN NCAA DIII SECOND ROUND ACTION

Manchester’s men’s basketball 12-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday as #21 Manchester fell to #5 Wooster 47-45 in second round action from the NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament. Wooster jumped out to an 11-2 lead with 13:29 left in the first half, as Manchester struggled from the floor on 1-10 shooting. The Spartans pulled together a run of 16-7 over the next 10 minutes of play to make it an 18-17 MC lead with 3:29 to go in the half, and remained the score as both teams headed into halftime. Manchester shot just 22 percent from the floor in the first half.

In the second half, Manchester jumped out to a 31-26 lead with 12 minutes to go, but Wooster bounced back to take a 38-35 lead with 5:22 remaining. Manchester tied the game at 38-38 on a Jordan Moss three-point play with 4:40 left, but Manchester hit just 2-8 free throws in the final four minutes of play allowing Wooster to pick up the 47-45 win as MC's Mitch Shaefer's three-point attempt at the buzzer hit the back iron.

Jordan Moss led Manchester with 14 points, hitting 5-11 shots and 4-6 free throws to go with his five points and two steals. Tyler Delauder added 12 points off the bench, hitting 5-9 shots and adding three rebounds and two steals. Mitch Schaefer scored nine points to go with his five rebounds.

Manchester finishes the season 22-7 overall.

Head Coach Brad Nadborne, starting his eighth season with Manchester in 2011-12, leads a program that has gained both conference and national recognition. Nadborne brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to Manchester College, having coached at both Division I and Division III colleges before coming to MC. He was named NABC Midwest Regional and HCAC Coach of the Year in 2011 following Manchester's 22-7 season.
  • Manchester College is the only school in the HCAC to play in a national championship, finishing runner-up in 1995 under then Head Coach Steve Alford.
