11.19.11 - MANCHESTER PLACES 30TH AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Manchester's men's cross country team finished 30th overall out of 32 teams at the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Osh Kosh and Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.


North Central College won the event with a team score of 110, followed by Haverford (172), Washington U (206), SUNY Geneseo (235), and Wis.-Oshkosh rounding out the top five. Manchester had a team score of 770, led by senior Alec Womboldt, who placed 106th with a time of 25:34. Clayton Harlan took 150th with a time of 25:58.02, followed by Michael Stocker who was 156th in 25:59.63. Calvin Cook was 162nd in 26:04, followed by John Caffarelli who finished in 26:55 and Corey Birchmeier who ran the course in 27:21.

11.16.11 CASHDOLLAR NAMED GREAT LAKES REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR
Manchester College cross country coach Brian Cashdollar was named Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year Wednesday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Cashdollar is in his 14th year of coaching cross country at Manchester College, and has led the men's and women's program to three-straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, and his men's team will make its second trip to the NCAA Championships this Saturday. The men's cross country team placed third at the NCAA Regional meet and were an at-large bid to the NCAA nationals.

11.12.11 - SPARTAN MEN ARE WILD CARD QUALIFIERS TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS FOLLOWING THIRD PLACE FINISH AT NCAA GREAT LAKES REGIONAL, THREE NAMED ALL-REGION
Manchester College's men's cross country team finished third overall out of 35 teams at the 2011 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday. The women placed 24th out of a field of 36 participating schools.

On the men's side, senior Alec Womboldt finished 15th overall with a time of 25:30. He was followed by Calvin Cook, who took 34th in 26:02 and Curtis Nordmann followed him in 35th place with a time of 26:06. Womboldt, Cook and Nordman were named to the All-Regional team for their performances in the race. Other key runners on the day included Jon Caffarelli, who took 51st place a time of 26:24, Michael Stocker finished 63rd in 26:36, Harlan Clayton was in 89th a 27:01 time, and Corey Birchmeier was 98th in 27:14.

In the women's race, Karla Madrigal led MC with a 54th place finish in 23:00. Ashley Kopla was 109th in 24:07, followed by Katie Miller with a time of 24:31, Casey Loshe ran the 6k event in 24:39, Meredith Cors had a time of 25:09, Emma Weiler ran the race in 25:16 and Megan Hammel's time was 25:30.

The men's cross country team's third place finish gives them one of 16 at-large bids to the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 19. The event is hosted by Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.


11.2.11 - SPARTAN MEN RANKED 35TH IN THE NATION
The Spartans men were named 35th in the nation on Wednesday. The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released their national rankings on Wednesday. The Spartans are currently ranked 3rd in the Great Lakes Region. The National Poll can be found here; while the Regional Poll can be found here.

10.29.11 - SPARTANS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT HCAC CONFERENCE TITLE
The men and women arrived at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana as the two- time defending HCAC Champions. They left as the three-time defending champions.

The women's team finished the day with four all-conference runners. Karla Madrigal was fourth, Casey Loshe was ninth, Megan Hammel was tenth, and Ashley Kopla was eleventh. The lady Spartans also had two all-conference honorable mention in Katie Miller who was sixteenth, and Meredith Cors who was eighteenth.

The men's team finished with four all-conference runners. Michael Stocker was third, Alec Womboldt was fourth, Calvin Cook was seventh, and Curtis Nordmann was eighth. Finishing all-conference honorable mention were Jon Caffarelli in sixteenth and Clayton Harlan in eighteenth.

Coach Brian Cashdollar was named HCAC Coach of the Year for the third straight year.

Both teams will be back in action in two weeks at the NCAA Regional host by Oberlin College.

10.15.11 - MEN FIRST, WOMEN THIRD AT MANCHESTER INVITATIONAL
In the last tune up before the HCAC Conference Meet the men's team finished first, and the women's team came home in third at the Manchester Invitational.

The men's team continued the trend of racing together this weekend by having the scoring five in the top fifteen. The Spartans were able to beat runner-up Cornerstone 45 to 47. Senior Alec Womboldt was once again the top finisher for the Spartans. Alec was followed by Curtis Nordmann in fifth, Jon Caffarelli in tenth, Calvin Cook in twelth, and Clayton Harlan in fifthteen.

The women's team ran strong for the second week in a row. They finished in third behind Cornerstone and Calvin College. Karla Madrigal continues to be the top lady Spartan as she finished third. Karla was followed by Katie Miller in fourteenth, Meredith Cors in eighthteen, Casey Loshe in nineteenth, and Megan Hammel in twenty fourth.

Both teams will try to defend their back-to-back HCAC titles in two weeks at Mounds State Park. The HCAC Conference Meet is being hosted by Anderson University.

10.8.11 - WOMEN FIFTH, MEN SECOND AT GIBSON FAMILY INVITATIONAL

Coming off of a weekend without racing, the women's team placed fifth while the men's team finished second at the Gibson Family Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Junior Karla Madrigal started the day off for the Spartans with an eleventh place finish. Running number two for the Spartans was first year Sarah Stalh. Sarah finished thirty-fourth, and was closely followed by Katie Miller in thirty-eighth, Ashley Kopla in fortieth and Emma Weiler in forty-third.

Senior Alec Womboldt returned to the Lavern Gibson course to exorcise his Terre Haute demons. Womboldt, a member of the 2009 National Qualifying team, had a disappointing regional run in '09 but showed up ready to continue the upward trend the Spartans have been on these past few weeks. Womboldt finished in ninth overall and would only have to wait fifty seconds for the rest of the Spartan top five. Scoring for the Spartans today were Jon Caffarelli in fourteenth, Michael Stocker in eighteenth, Curtis Nordman in twenty-ninth, and Clayton Harlan in thirtieth.

9.24.11 - MEN THIRD, WOMEN FIFTH AT OTTERBEIN INVITATIONAL
The men's and women's teams traveled to Westerville, Ohio to compete at the Otterbein Invitational. The men finished third and the women came home fifth.

Continuing to lead the charge for the third place Spartans was Alec Womboldt. The senior from DeWitt, Michigan finished fourth overall. He was the first of five Spartans in the top twenty five. Calvin Cook was eleventh, Michael Stocker was thirteenth, Curtis Nordmann was sixteenth, and Jon Caffarelli was twenty second.

Karla Madrigal continued her amazing season by pacing the women's team to a fifth place showing. Madrigal finished seventh overall. She was joined in the top twenty five by teammate Ashley Kopla who finished twenty fifth.

The Spartans are off this coming weekend but will be back in action October 8th in Terre Haute at the Lavern Gibson Family Cross Country Course.

9.16.11 - MEN FOURTH, WOMEN FIFTH AT INDIANA INTERCOLLEGIATES
Both the men's and women's teams traveled to Indiana University to run at Indiana Intercollegiates. The men finished fourth in the small state division while the women were fifth.

Alec Womboldt led the charge for the Spartans for the second consecutive week. Alec finished 15th in the small state division to help the Spartans to a fourth place showing. The men's team was the second NCAA Division III school and top placing HCAC institution.

Karla Madrigal paced the lady Spartans for the second week with a time of 19:48. Karla helped the women finish fifth in the small state division, second among NCAA Division III schools and the top HCAC institution.

Both squads will be back in action next Saturday at the Inter-regional Rumble at Otterbein.

9.13.11 - MEN RANKED EIGHTH IN REGION
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released their weekly rankings this morning. In this latest poll the Spartan men are ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region. Full rankings here.

9.10.11 - MEN FIFTH, WOMEN ELEVENTH AT OHIO WESLEYAN INVITE
The men’s and women’s teams headed to Delaware, Ohio in order to compete at Ohio Wesleyan University. The men finished fifth out of seventeen teams while the women came home in eleventh out of eighteen.

The men’s team was led again this week by senior Alec Womboldt. He finished with a time of 27:14.1 which was good enough for twenty-first overall. He was followed closely by his fellow upperclassman Calvin Cook. Calvin finished twenty-sixth overall with a time of 27:26.1.

The women’s team was led by junior Karla Madrigal. Karla finished seventeenth overall with a time of 19:42.3. The next four lady Spartans all finished within twenty seconds of each other. Ashley Kopla, Brittany Shuler, Molly Wright, and Katie Miller ran 21:01, 21:09, 21:14, and 21:18 respectively.

Both teams will be back in action at Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by IU this Friday, September 16th.

9.1.11 - MEN AND WOMEN OPEN SEASON AT HOKEM KAREM
Both Spartan teams opened their 2011 campaigns with their traditional Hokem Karem against conference rival Defiance College.

The women's team looked strong in a nine to twelve victory. Juniors Ashley Kopla and Meredith Cors were the Spartans top pair in second and they were followed immediately by their teammates. All in all, the Lady Spartans grabed five of the top six spots with a team from Defiance capturing the individual win. Full results here.

The men's team was paced by two seniors to a six to fifteen victory. Ben Houston and Alec Womboldt won the meet and turned around to find their teammates in second and third. Overall the men captured seven of the top ten spots. Full results here.

8.23.11 - MEN AND WOMEN PICKED AS PRESEASON CONFERENCE FAVORITES
Coming off of back-to-back Heartland Championships both Spartan teams have been pick by the coaches to repeat again.

The women received eight of ten first place votes and totaled 97 points. At last years championship the Spartans totaled 25 points on the women's side which tied the lowest score ever at a HCAC Conference meet. The women's top returner is junior Meredith Cors who placed 5th at last year's meet. Full press release.

The Spartan cross country runners are a group of dedicated teammates who work hard together and encourage each other to achieve their potential. The cross country program, combined with track and field, has produced more than 53 Academic All-Americans, 20 Athletic All-Americans and three national champions.

Now in his 12th year as head coach of the men's and women's cross-country teams, Brian Cashdollar was a four-year letter winner and two-time captain while participating in track and field at Ball State University.

  • Andy Williams graduated as a two time HCAC Most Valuable Runner.
  • The men's and women's team won the team titles at the conference meet.
  • Manchester has had 39 athletes from the men’s and women’s teams awarded All-Conference honors in the last ten years.
  • Coach Cashdollar was named HCAC Coach of the Year in 2003, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
