Manchester College inducted four into the Athletic
Hall of Fame during a luncheon ceremony Sept. 18, 2004. Til ’47 and
Dortha ’47 King, George McKinney ’60, Larry Martin ’63, and Carolyn McGuire
’95 will join the 43 individuals and four teams that currently make up the
Manchester College Athletic Hall of Fame. A luncheon was held in their honor on Saturday,
Sept.18, at 11 a.m in the College Union.

and Dortha King have been the driving force behind the Friends of Manchester
Golf Outing, the College’s biggest fund raiser for the athletic department.
In July 1990, the outing's first year, profits netted $350. Today,
in its 15th year, the Kings have helped raise over $520,000
for the athletic department. Til was a former basketball and baseball
player at MC, where he and wife, Dortha, first met. They reside in Auburn,
IN.
George McKinney, a former football and basketball standout for the
Spartans, went on to sign a professional football contract with the
Dallas Cowboys. McKinney spent three seasons with the football program as
tight end and led the team in receptions his junior and senior years. He was named First Team All-Conference twice as a Spartan and ranked 22nd in the nation for most receptions. He received Honorable Mention Little
School All-American honors his senior year in 1959. McKinney also played center for
the basketball team for three seasons, helping MC to a school record in wins
during the 1958 season. He averaged nearly 11 rebounds per game his senior
year, earning the team’s Most Improved Award. He resides in Fort Wayne,
Ind.
Larry
Martin has been described by many as the best all-around athlete to attend
Manchester College. Martin earned 10 varsity letters during his collegiate
career. He was a three-year starter at quarterback for the football team,
playing alongside George McKinney for two seasons. In 1959, he ranked ninth in the
nation for total offense. He was a three-time All-Conference player with
the Spartan baseball team, earning him four varsity letters. He played
varsity basketball for two seasons, and played one year of tennis to
rehabilitate a knee injury that forced him from playing football his senior
year. He won eight of nine matches with the tennis team. He resides in
Leo, Ind.
Carolyn McGuire was a standout with the women’s
basketball program from 1991-95. She guided the Spartans to their first
NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 1995. McGuire was a four-time First
Team All-Conference player for Manchester, and holds records in most points
in a season (510) and career (1,536); field goals in a career (596); rebounds
in a game (25), season (328) and career (942). She also holds the record
for most steals in a season (89). McGuire helped MC to a 67-31 record
during her four years. She resides in Indianapolis, Ind.
