2.24.09 - ROWE NAMED TO NSCAA GREAT LAKES REGION TEAM, DEETER, GADZAMA AND YEAGER NAMED SCHOLAR-ALL-REGION
Manchester College senior Chris Rowe was named to the National Soccer Coaches of America Association's Great Lakes All-Region Second Team for the 2008-09 season for the third time in his four years at Manchester College.

Rowe scored seven goals and four assists for the men's team that finished 9-10-2 overall.

The NSCAA named three Spartans to the Scholar All-North Central Region team, including Ryan Deeter, Heriju Gadzam a and Tyler Yeager. The award requires a minimum 3.4 GPA and contribute as a starter. All three seniors were awarded HCAC All-Academic Team honors in December.

11.5.08 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO TRANSLYVANIA 1-0 IN SEMI-FINALS OF HCAC TOURNAMENT

Manchester fell to Transylvania 1-0 in the semi-finals of the HCAC Conference Tournament on Wednesday. Transylvania scored in the 73rd minute of play to take the 1-0 win. Manchester's Matt Mullen recorded five saves in the loss. Manchester finishes the season 9-10-2 on the year.

11.1.08 - SPARTANS POST 1-0 WIN OVER FRANKLIN, HEAD TO TRANSY ON WEDNESDAY FOR HCAC TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL
Manchester posted a 1-0 win Saturday over Franklin College to capture their seventh win in the last eight matches.

Corey Bruggeman scored on a Dustin John assist in the 52nd minute of play to poick up the win. Goalkeep Matt Mullen had four saves in his sixth shutout of the year.

Manchester evens their record to 9-9-2 on the year, and finish 6-2 in the HCAC. They earn a three-seed in the HCAC Tournament, and will travel to Transylvania on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. contest, followed by the MC women against Transy at 5 p.m.

10.29.08 - MC POSTS 5-0 CONFERENCE WIN OVER DEFIANCE

Manchester's men's soccer team picked up a 5-0 conference win over Defiance on Wednesday. Ben Cole scored the game winner in the 9th minute of action. He assisted Brian Woods on the second goal of the day in the 24th minute, then added his second assist on the day as Corey Bruggeman scored in the 27th minute to give MC a 3-0 lead at the half.

Cole scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 54th minute, and Scott Krager added the fifth goal of the game in the 70th minute. Matt Mullen added five saves in the shutout win.

Manchester improves to 8-9-2 on the year, 5-2 in the HCAC. They close out the regular season at home on Saturday as they host Franklin.

10.25.08 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO ROSE-HULMAN 2-1
Manchester's men's soccer team fell to Rose-Hulman 2-1 in conference action Saturday, extending Rose's lead in the conference standings.

Rose-Hulman scored in the 74th minute for the first goal of the game. Manchester responded with a J.B. Schwartz goal on a Chris Rowe assist in the 81st minute to tie the game. The Engineers scored in the 83rd minute to break the tie and picked up the 2-1 win.

Manchester falls to 7-9-2 overall, 4-2 in the HCAC. They host Defiance on Wednesday, and close out the regular season on Saturday at home against Franklin.

10.21.08 - SPARTANS POST FIFTH-STRAIGHT WIN IN 3-2 VICTORY OVER BLUFFTON
Manchester's Heriju Gadzama scored with 25 seconds remaining in regulation to give Manchester a 3-2 win over Bluffton, marking MC's fifth-straight win.

Micah Sollenberger scored in the 34th minute on a Dustin John assist to tie the game at 1-1. Bluffton scored again to take a 2-1 lead into halftime. Manchester scored on a penalty kick from Ben Cole in the 63rd minute to tie the game, with Gadzama's game-winning goal coming unassisted at the 89:35 mark.

Manchester improves to 7-8-2 on the year, 4-1 in the HCAC. They return to conference action on Saturday as they face league-leading Rose-Hulman starting at 2 p.m.

10.18.08 - MANCHESTER WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT IN 1-0 VICTORY OVER MT. ST. JOSEPH

Manchester's men's soccer team posted their fourth straight win on Saturday in a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph.

Ben Cole scored the lone goal of the game in the 8th minute of play. Matt Mullen record six saves for MC, who outshot the Lions 25-10.

Manchester improves to 6-8-2 overall, 3-1 in the HCAC. They travel to Bluffton on Tuesday, then return home on Saturday to host Rose-Hulman.

10.11.08 - ROWE SCORES TWO GOALS IN 2-0 WIN OVER HOLY CROSS COLLEGE
Manchester College senior Chris Rowe scored both goals in Manchester's 2-0 win over Holy Cross College - Notre Dame on Saturday's Homecoming game.

Rowe scored in the 4th minute of action and again in the 34th minute of play on a Dylan Bush assist for the 2-0 win. Goalkeep Matt Mullen had seven saves in the shutout win. Manchester, winners in their third straight match, improve to 5-8-2 on the year and return to action Saturday at Mount St. Joseph.

10.8.08 - MANCHESTER GETS FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OVER ANDERSON
The Spartan men's soccer team posted a 3-2 win over Anderson, marking their second conference win of the year.

Manchester took a 2-0 lead into the half as Ben Cole scored unassisted and Heriju Gadzama scored on a Cole assist. The Ravens scored nine minutes into the second half, but Manchester responded with a Chris Rowe goal on a Gadzama assist to take a 3-1 lead. Anderson scored in the 68th minute to pull within one, 3-2, but Manchester's defense held AU scoreless for the remaining 22 minutes of play to pick up the win.

Manchester improves to 4-8-2 overall, 2-1 in the HCAC. They host Holy Cross on Saturday in the first game of the Homecoming doubleheader scheduled with the women's soccer team. The men are scheduled for a 12 p.m. kickoff followed by the women at 2 p.m.

10.4.08 - MANCHESTER PICKS UP FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OVER HANOVER IN 1-0 VICTORY

Matt Mullen recorded eight saves in the shutout win. Manchester improves to 3-8-2 on the year, 1-1 in the HCAC. They return to action Wednesday at Anderson.

Earlham took a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute of action before Brian Woods scored on a free kick in the 85th minute to tie the game at 2-2. Earlham responded with a goal in the 88th minute of action to take the 3-2 win.

9.27.08 - MC FALLS IN COMEBACK EFFORT 3-2 TO TRANSYLVANIA

Manchester battled back from a 2-0 halftime deficit as Chris Rowe scored in the 61st minute to cut the lead to one, 2-1. Transy scored again in the 66th minute of play for a 3-1 lead before Rowe scored again in the 88th minute on a Dustin John assist for the 3-2 loss.

Manchester drops to 2-7-2 on the year, 0-1 in the HCAC. They travel to Earlham for a 5 p.m. contest on Wednesday.

9.20.08 - SPARTANS FALL TO OLIVET 5-1
Manchester's men's soccer team fell to Olivet 5-1 in home action Saturday. MC and Olivet took a 1-1 tie into the half, but Olivet scored four in the second half to take the win.

MC's Seth Koening scored the lone goal for Manchester on an assist from Corey Brueggerman late in the second half to tie the game.

Manchester drops to 2-6-2 on the year, and returns to action next Saturday at Transylvania to start HCAC action.

9.16.08 - GOSHEN HOLDS OFF MANCHESTER 3-2
Manchester's offense took control in the second half in Tuesday night's match with Goshen, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 3-0 halftime lead by the Maple Leafs in a 3-2 loss for MC.

Dustin John scored unassisted for MC's first goal of the game. Brian Woods connected on a Ben Cole assist to pull within one goal.

Manchester moves to 2-5-2 on the year, and returns to action Saturday at home against Olivet.

9.13.08 - ROWE SCORES GAME WINNER AS MC DEFEATS ALMA 1-0
Despite being down a player following a red card in Saturday's consolation match with Alma at the Ohio Northern Invite, Manchester was able to walk away with a 1-0 win over the Scots.

Chris Rowe scored unassisted in the 72nd minute of play to give Manchester the 1-0 lead. Goalkeeper Matt Mullen recorded 11 saves to aid in the win as Manchester was out-shot 22-6 in the game.

Manchester moves to 2-4-2 on the year, and returns to action Tuesday at Goshen for a 7 p.m. start.

9.12.08 - MANCHESTER FALLS TO OHIO NORTHERN IN TOURNAMENT ACTION 4-0
Manchester fell to Ohio Northern 4-0 in men's soccer action Friday in the opening game of the Ohio Northern Tournament.

Goalkeeper Matt Mullen recorded 15 saves for MC in the loss.

Manchester drops to 1-4-2 overall, and faces Alma at Ohio Northern on Saturday.


9.9.08 - MC ENDS IN TIE WITH HUNTINGTON
Manchester's men's soccer team ended in a scoreless tie with Huntington on Tuesday following two overtime sessions.

Manchester moves to 1-3-2 on the year and returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Ohio Northern Invite. Manchester faces ONU at 3 p.m. on Friday and will face Alma starting at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

9.6.08 - MANCHESTER POSTS FIRST WIN OF SEASON, 3-1 AGAINST MARANATHA
Manchester's men's soccer team posted a 3-1 win over Maranatha Baptist on Saturday in the consolations of the Moody Bible Tournament.  Manchester scored their first goals of the year against Maranatha, and got on the scoreboard in the first half as Corey Brueggeman scored on a double assist from Ben Cole and Chris Rowe in the 41st minute to give MC a 1-0 lead at the half. 

In the second period, Manchester's Brian Woods scored on a Rowe assist in the 65th minute and the Spartans attacked in the 67th minute for a Ben Cole goal with another assist coming from Chris Rowe for the insurance goal. 

 Manchester improves to 1-3-1 overall and returns to action Tuesday at Huntington. 

9.5.08 - SPARTANS FALL TO MSOE 4-0 IN FIRST ROUND OF MOODY BIBLE TOURNAMENT
The men's soccer team fell to Milwaukee School of Engineering 4-0 in the first round of action from the Moody Bible Tournament on Friday.  Manchester trailed 2-0 heading into the half.

The Spartans return to action tomorrow as they face Maranatha Baptist starting at 11:30 a.m. CST.
 
9.2.08 - MC FALLS TO ALBION 1-0

Manchester's men's soccer team lost to visiting Albion College 1-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday.  Albion scored in the 10th minute of action to take the 1-0 lead. 

Matt Mullen recorded nine saves in the game for Manchester, who falls to 0-2-1 on the year and returns to action on Friday at the Moody Bible Tournament starting at 5 p.m.

8.30.08 - SPARTANS END IN 0-0 TIE WITH MOODY BIBLE
Manchester's men's soccer team ended in a scoreless tie with Moody Bible following two overtime sessions on Saturday.   Manchester fell in double overtime Friday 1-0 to Grace in the opening round of action. 

Manchester returns to play Tuesday at home as they host Albion for a 4 p.m. start.

8.28.08 - SOCCER ACTION STARTS FRIDAY AT HOME AGAINST GRACE
Manchester College men’s soccer coach Dave Good has a lot to look forward to for the upcoming season.  Manchester, picked to finish third in the HCAC preseason poll, tied a school record last year in wins with a 12-6-1 record and set a record for most goals in a season with 56.  MC took third in the league standings with a 5-2-1 record and advanced to the HCAC Tournament finals where they fell to Transylvania 2-1.  Manchester loses five of their top seven scorers from last year

Leading the way for Manchester is senior Chris Rowe (Belleville, Mich./H.S.).  Rowe was the HCAC Freshman of the year in 2005 and has been a key part in the Spartans’ offense.  Last year he had four goals and seven assists. 

Joining him will be fellow seniors Matt Mullen (Shelbyville, Ind./H.S.), Tyler Yeager (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider), Heriju Gadzama (Jos, Nigeria/Hillcrest), Ryan Deeter (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) and Micah Sollenberger (Annville, Pa./Cleona).  Gadzama added two goals and two assists last year, while Yeager added one goal and one assist.  Matt Mullen saw action in 13 contests last year at the goalkeeper position, with 11 goals allowed and 45 recorded saves and helped his team to a 6-2 record. 

Junior Brian Woods (Carmel, Ind./Westfield) returns as the top returning scorer for the Spartans.  Also a former HCAC Freshman of the Year player, Woods will continue his offensive presence and build on his 10 goal, 4 assist season last year.  Jason Scheuer (Warsaw, Ind./H.S.) and Austin Freels (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) add depth defensively for MC. 

Coach Good has 16 sophomores and first year players to vie for playing time this year.  The Spartans open their season at home on Friday, August 29 as Manchester plays host to the annual MC Kick-Off Tournament.  Bluffton and Moody Bible will open up at 3 p.m. followed by Manchester and Grace at 5 p.m.



8.21.08 - MEN'S SOCCER TO HOST ANNUAL ALUMNI GAME
Manchester College men's soccer coach Dave Good will once again welcome former players for the annual men's soccer Alumni Game. 

Soccer action beings at 10 a.m. as the Old Timers, or graduates of ten or more years, take on the 2008 Spartan squad.  Alumni that have graduated during the past 10 years will compete against MC starting at 3 p.m. with a luncheon session scheduled in between.

1.28.08 - SWANSON JOINS ROWE AS NSCAA NORTH/CENTRAL SCHOLAR ATHLETE
Manchester College senior elementary education major Parker Swanson joined Chris Rowe to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's North/Central Scholar Athlete Team.  The NSCAA/adidas sponsor award selected 16 individuals to the North/Central team on merits of academic and athletics success.  Manchester was the only conference school represented on this year's list. 

Swanson ended the 2007 season with 10 goals and four assists and ranked second in the league in both points and goals scored. He helped the Spartans tie a school record for wins in a season at 12-6-2 overall, and ended his four year career at Manchester with 36 goals and 13 assists. He has been named to the HCAC First Team All-Conference and HCAC Academic All-Conference teams.


1.9.08 - ROWE NAMED NSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICAN
Manchester College junior  Chris Rowe has been named First Team Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of Association. Rowe, a Biology-Chemistry major, was named to the Scholar-All-North/Central Regional team before advancing to the national ballots.  

Rowe also was named to the NSCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Regional team, as he scored four goals and assisted in seven others for the men's soccer team this season.  Manchester ended the year 12-6-2, tying a school record for wins in a season.

11.30.07-COACH GOOD'S SEASON RECAP
The 2007 season was an exciting year with several record-tying and record-breaking performances. The team tied the Manchester record of wins (12) and shutouts (8) in a single season. The 56 goals the team recorded broke the single-season scoring record of 55 set back in 1985. Brian Huss broke the single season assist record with his total of 15.
After losing the opening game of Heartland Conference play, the Spartans found themselves playing for a share of the conference championship in the final game versus Transylvania. The 1-2 loss in that game set up a re-match a week later in the HCAC Tournament Championship with a chance to move on into the national tournament. The team beat Rose-Hulman in the semi-finals on penalty kicks following overtime, but then lost to Transy 1-2 in the championship game to end the 2007 season.
The Spartans graduate six seniors from this year’s team but will still return a strong nucleus for 2008. Defender Brian Woods, midfielder Chris Rowe, and forwards Brian Huss and Parker Swanson were named to the HCAC All-Conference team. Defender Tom Garrett and forward Elie Francois were named to the Second Team All-Conference. Coach David Good shared HCAC Coach of the Year honors with the coaches from Rose-Hulman and Transylvania.
Ryan Deeter, Heriju Gadzama, Dante Samuel and Parker Swanson were recognized on the HCAC Academic All-Conference team (3.5 GPA or better).

11.3.07-MANCHESTER FALLS TO TRANSYLVANIA IN THE HCAC TOURNAMENT FINALS 2-1
Manchester's men's soccer team winded down the season on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Transylvania in the HCAC Conference Tournament Finals. 

Transylvania broke the scoreless halftime score with a pair of goals at the 54th and 71st minute of action.  Manchester's Brian Woods scored his 10th goal of the year, tying a season high total with Parker Swason. 

Jake Johnson recorded four saves for MC. The Spartans fall to 12-6-2 overall, and tie a school record in wins set back in 1995.

10.30.07-SPARTANS ADVANCE TO HCAC TOURNAMENT FINALS BY WAY OF SHOOTOUT
Manchester College's men's soccer team tied Rose-Hulman 0-0 after three overtime sessions on Tuesday in the semi-final game of the HCAC Conference Tournament.  Manchester and Rose-Hulman were forced to a shootout following the second overtime session, with Manchester outscoring Rose 3-2. 

Brian Huss, Chris Rowe and Tom Garrett each scored on the penalty kick shootout for MC, while Rose-Hulman's Trevor Miller and Brian Fulmer were able to slip their shots past MC goalkeeper Jake Johnson.  Johnson recorded his fourth shutout of the season and had five saves in 110 minutes at the goalkeeper position. 

Manchester (12-5-2) will travel to Transylvania (14-2-1) on Saturday for the HCAC Tournament finals starting at 1 p.m.  Transylvania was a 2-1 double overtime winner over Hanover on Tuesday. 

Manchester's women's soccer team will be in action Wednesday also at Rose-Hulman for a 2:30 p.m. start in the HCAC semi-finals.

10.27.07-MC FALLS TO TRANSY 2-1, SETS SIGHTS ON HCAC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Manchester's men's soccer team fell to Transylvania 2-1 in the final game of the regular season on Saturday. The win gives Transy the HCAC regular season conference title with a 7-0-1 record while Manchester places third overall with a 5-2-1 record. 

Transy scored in the 38th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead into the half.  Manchester's Pepo Villalba scored his ninth goal of the year on a header assisted by Elie Francois to tie the game at the 67th minute.  Transy's Ryan Dale scored on a direct kick with four minutes remaining to give Transy the 2-1 win. 

Manchester will travel to Rose-Hulman on Tuesday for the semi-final game of the HCAC Conference Tournament.  Both teams ended in a 2-2 tie back on Sept. 29.
