5.28.10 - BROWN NAMED HCAC PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Manchester College senior Kristi Brown was named HCAC Softball Pitcher of the Year in a unanimous vote by HCAC coaches. Brown helped Manchester to a 23-20-1 record, and was 8-1 against conference opponents. She allowed just 12 earned runs in 62.2 innings, and struck out 59 conference opponents in six complete games. She has a 1.54 ERA and an overall record of 17-6. Joining Brown on the First Team All-Conference list were senior first baseman Rosie Bond and sophomore catcher Amy Hommema. Jade Kennedy picked up Second Team honors while Erica Bush was named honorable mention. Both Brown and Hommema were named to the Third Team All-Central Region team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

5.8.10 - MC FALLS TO TRANSY IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME OF HCAC TOURNAMENT
Manchester opened Saturday's semi-finals with an 11-4 win over Bluffton, but fell to host Transylvania 6-2 in the championship game of the HCAC Tournament.

Kristi Brown was the winning pitcher over Bluffton, throwing one strikeout and allowing just one earned run. Brittney Miller was 3-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Amy Hommema was 2-3 with an RBI, Holly Morris was 2-4 with three runs and three RBI and Rosie Bond finished the game 4-5 with four RBI.

MC fell 6-2 in the championship game, as Transy scored three in the third and two runs in the fourth inning. Erica Bush was the losing pitcher for Manchester, throwing 3.1 innings with two of the six runs given up being earned. Annie Hernandez was 2-3 with an RBI and Bond went 1-3.

Manchester ends the year 23-20-1 overall.

5.7.10 - SPARTANS STAY ALIVE IN HCAC TOURNAMENT, FALL TO TRANSYLVANIA 6-3, WIN 4-1 OVER ANDERSON
Manchester fell to Transylvania 6-3 in the opening round game of the HCAC Tournament on Friday. Kristi Brown recorded five strikeouts, allowing just three earned runs of the six on seven hits. Annie Hernandez was 2-3 with a run scored, while Jade Kennedy went 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

In game two, Manchester picked up a 4-1 win over Anderson in the consolation round with Brown collecting seven strikeouts with just three hits given up. Hernandez was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Amy Hommema was 1-3 with an RBI.

Manchester (22-19-1) resumes action Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against the loser of the Bluffton/Transylvania game from Friday.

5.1.10 - SPARTANS SPLIT WITH DEFIANCE, FINISH TIED FOR FOURTH IN CONFERENCE, HOMMEMA AND BROWN SET SCHOOL RECORDS
Manchester softball split with Defiance in the conference finale of the season on Saturday, winning game one 8-1 and falling 4-3 in game two.

In game one, Kristi Brown improved to 16-5 on the year, throwing five strikeouts in seven complete innings. She leaves Manchester with a record 139 strikeouts in a season. Offensively for Manchester, Amy Hommema was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Rosie Bond finished 3-4 with three RBi and a run scored.

In game two, Defiance scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to pick up the 4-3 win. Erica Bush recorded three strikeouts in the loss, giving up just one earned run on eight hits. Hommema finished 2-4 with two RBI and notched her recording setting 10th homerun of the season and sets a new MC record for RBIs in a season with 43 as she drove in two runners and posts an MC season best .811 slugging percentage. Bond and Annie Hernandez finished the game 3-4, with Hernandez adding an RBI.

Manchester finishes the regular season 21-18-1, 9-7 in the HCAC. Manchester will serve as a four-seed in the upcoming HCAC Tournament, hosted by Transylvania, this Friday and Saturday.

TWICE AS MC SPLITS WITH BLUFFTON
Manchester split in conferene action Wednesday, picking up game one 6-3 and falling 6-5 in game two.

In game one, Kristi Brown improved to 15-4 on the year, giving up seven hits and three runs with four strikeouts. Amy Hommema was 2-2 with three RBI, including a solo homerun and a two RBI single. Holly Morris, Brittney Miller, Jade Kennedy and Danielle Howell each had a hit.

In game two, Bluffton scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to pick up the 6-5 win, as Erica Bush recorded the loss. Hommema was 2-3 with a two run homer for MC, and Morris added a three run blast for the Spartans. Kennedy was 2-3 in the game.

Manchester moves to 20-17-1 overall, 8-6 in the HCAC. They travel to Defiance on Saturday.

4.25.10 - MC SWEEPS MSJ 10-2 AND 9-1 IN HCAC ACTION, BROWN BREAKS OWN SCHOOL RECORD FOR STRIKEOUTS
Manchester College senior Kristi Brown broke her own school record for strikeouts in a season on Saturday as Manchester defeated Mount St. Joseph 10-2 and 9-1 in doubleheader action.

Brown broke her own school record of 123 strikeouts in a season in the 10-2 win. Brown collected four strikeouts in the win to move her season record total to 126 for the year with two conference opponents left to play.

Sam Reynolds was 3-4 with a pair of runs, Amy Hommema was 2-3 with three runs, while Holly Morris finished the day 2-4 with three runs scored. Rosie Bond was 2-4 with a three-RBI double and had four RBI total for the game. Jade Kenney also had four RBI with a pair of two run doubles.

In game two, MC picked up a 9-1 win, as Brown picked up her second win of the day with four more strikeouts for a total of 130 on the year. Morris was 2-3, Kennedy was 3-3 with three runs scored and Hommema scored on a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Manchester moves to 19-16-1 overall, 7-5 in the HCAC. They travel to Bluffton on Wednesday.

4.22.10 - SPARTANS SPLIT WITH HUNTINGTON
Manchester took both games of the doubleheader in extra innings on Thursday, winning game one 4-3 in eight innings and falling 7-6 in game two.

In game one, MC scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to force the extra inning. Kristi Brown was the winning pitcher for Manchester, throwing three strikeouts in eight innings of action with five hits allowed. Sam Reynolds and Jade Kennedy were each 2-4, while Annie Hernandez went 2-3.

In game two, Huntington scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning. Erica Bush threw for six innings with four strikeouts, before Kristi Brown took over in the seventh inning and took the loss. Amy Hommema was 2-3 with a run scored, Rosie Bond was 2-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Kennedy added two RBIs with a 1-4 performance.

Manchester moves to 17-16-1 on the year, and returns to conference action on Saturday as they host Mount St. Joseph for their final home game of the year.

4.18.10 - MC SPLITS WITH FRANKLIN

Manchester split in doubleheader action at Franklin on Sunday, winning game one 6-3 and falling in game two 4-2.

In game one, Manchester scored five runs in the top of the second inning to pick up the 6-3 win. Kristi Brown recorded the win with five recorded strikeouts and allowed 10 hits and two earned runs. Brittney Miller, Amy Hommema and Rosie Bond were 2-4 each, with Hommema recording a double and three RBIs. Jade Kennedy was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

In game two, MC fell 4-2, as Erica Bush recorded the loss. She had two strikeouts with seven hits and four earned runs allowed. Hommema was 2-4 with an RBI, Bond finished 2-3, while Kennedy and Danielle Howell were 1-2. Howell adding an RBI for the Spartans.

Manchester moves to 16-15-1 overall, 5-5 in the HCAC. They will travel to Huntington on Thursday and close out their home schedule Saturday against Mt. St. Joseph.

4.17.10 - MANCHESTER SPLITS WITH TRANSYLVANIA

Manchester split a doubleheader with Transylvania on Saturday, winning game one 2-1 and falling in game two 10-2.

Kristi Brown had six strikeouts on seven hits as she improved to 10-4 on the year with the win. Amy Hommema was 2-3, while Holly Morris went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Jade Kennedy was 1-3 with an RBI for the Spartnas.

in game two, Transy scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to pick up the 10-2 two win in five innings. Rosie Bond was 2-2 with an RBI. Morris, Hommema and Erica Bush were 1-2. Bush was the losing pitcher in the contest.

Manchester moves to 15-14-1 overall, 4-4 in the HCAC. They travel to Franklin on Sunday.

4.13.10 - SOFTBALL DROPS TO TO ANDERSON
Manchester lost 1-0 and 4-1 in doubleheader action Tuesday against Anderson.

In game one, Kristi Brown recorded 12 strikeouts, but recorded the loss, surrendering just three hits. Rosie Bond went 2-3 and Brittney Miller finished the game 1-2.

In the second game, Erica Bush took the loss, throwing just four hits with two runs allowed in six innings. Holly Morris was 2-4 with an RBI and Jade Kennedy finished the game 2-3.

Manchester falls to 14-13-1 overall, 3-3 in the HCAC. They resume action on the road Saturday as they travel to Transylvania, and play at Franklin on Sunday.

4.11.10-MC SPLITS WITH ROSE-HULMAN
Manchester dropped its first conference game of the year on Sunday as the Spartans split a doubleheader with Rose-Hulman, winning game one 1-0 and falling 1-0 in game two.

Kristi Brown improved to 9-3 on the year and won her eighth straight contest in the 1-0 win. She struck out seven while giving up six hits in the game. Brittney Miller was 2-3, Annie Hernandez was 1-2 with a double and Amy Hommema was 0-2 with a sacrifice RBI.

In game two, Erica Bush was the losing pitcher, recording four strikeouts in the game. Hommema, Hernandez, Sam Reynolds and Holly Morris each had hits for MC.

Manchester moves to 14-11-1 overall, 3-1 in the HCAC. They host Anderson on Tuesday.

4.10.10 - MANCHESTER BLANKS HANOVER 7-0 AND 10-0
Manchester picked up a pair of conference wins in softball on Saturday, shutting out Hanover 7-0 and 10-0 in six innings.

In game one, Kristi Brown recorded 11 strikeouts, allowing just three hits in the 7-0 win. Amy Hommema just missed hitting the cycle as she had a homerun, triple and double. She went 3-3 on the day with four RBI and three runs scored. Annie Hernandez was 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jade Kennedy, Holly Morris, Sam Reynolds and Danielle Howell were each 1-3 on the day.

In game two, Morris hit a three run homer in the bottom of the sixth to end the game 10-0. Reynolds finished 3-4 with an RBi, Hommema was 2-4 with two RBI, Rosie Bond went 2-3 and Erica Bush finished the day 2-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Bush also picked up the win for the Spartans, thorwing two strikeouts and giving up just four hits in the contest.

Manchester improves to 13-10-1 on the year, 2-0 in the HCAC. They resume conference action at home on Sunday as they host Rose-Hulman starting at 2 p.m.

4.8.10 - SPARTANS FALL IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION TO #25 DEPAUW 7-0 AND 13-5
Manchester's softball team returned to action Thursday, falling to host DePauw 7-0 and 13-5 in six innings. DePauw is currently ranked 25th in the national polls.

In the 7-0 loss, Kristi Brown recording the loss, giving up 8 hits and no earned runs, and striking out three. Jade Kennedy went 2-3 and Brittney Miller was 1-2 with a stolen base.

Manchester fell 13-5 in game two as DePauw scored six in the third and five in the fourth inning. Erica Bush picked up the loss with 15 hits and 10 runs allowed in 3.1 innings. Amy Hommema, named HCAC Hitter of the Week for the second time this season, was 2-3 with a two run homer for MC. Rosie Bond was 2-3 with a pair of doubles, Danielle Howell was 3-3 with three RBI, and Miller was 1-2 with a run scored.

Manchester falls to 11-10-1 overall and returns home on Saturday as they host Hanover starting at noon, followed by more home action on Sunday as they host Rose-Hulman at 2 p.m.

Each March, the Manchester women's softball team spends spring break in the southern U.S. playing 10 games against regionally ranked teams. Under first year head coach Tracy Cromer, the Spartan softball team looks to continue a proud history of honors over the years, including a spot in the NCAA National Tournament in 2001.
  • In 2008 Lisa Heaton was named to the HCAC All-Conference team for the fourth time in her career.
  • MC softball has had 11 All-Region, 37 All-Conference and 12 Academic All-Conference players.
  • In 2001, the Spartans were Conference Tournament champions and made their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Coach Cromer was the head coach at Northwestern for five seasons with three 20+ wins seasons.
