
11.8.08 - MANCHESTER DEFEATS ANDERSON 3-2 IN ROUND ONE OF HCAC TOURNAMENT, FALLS TO DEFIANCE 3-1
#6 Manchester posted a 3-2 upset over #3 Anderson University in the first round of the HCAC Conference Tournament on Saturday, hosted by Mount St. Joseph.
Set scores were 25-17, 19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11.
Christa Peden and Amanda Dickman posted 13 kills each. Peden added seven blocks while Dickman recorded two. Stephanie Rion added 29 digs and eight kills in the win while Dani Blevins added 22 digs and Lauren Nash tallied 40 assists.
Against Defiance, Manchester lost 3-1 with game scores 25-18, 20-25, 25-13, 25-22. Dickman paced Manchester with 15 kills while Peden added 14.
Manchester ends the year 18-15 overall.
11.1.08 - SPARTANS FINISH 1-3 AT HOPE/CALVIN TOURNAMENT
Manchester's volleyball team finished 1-3 at the two-day Hope/Calvin Tournament over the weekend.
In game one Friday, Manchester lost to Heidelberg 3-0, set scores were 25-22, 25-15, 25-14. Amanda Dickman led the way with seven kills and Whitney Piatt added five. In game two, MC fell to Alma 3-0, set scores were 25-23, 25-18 ,25-20. Dickman had eight kills and Kristi Staton added seven.
On Saturday, Manchester lost to Baldwin-Wallace 3-1, set scores were 26-16, 25-14, 26-14, 25-19. Dickman had 10 kills while Lauren Nash added 26 assists and 11 digs.
MC closed out the day with a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo, 19-25, 13-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-11. Rebecca Varnes and Dickman led the way with seven kills each, with Varnes recording six blocks. Sheena Steely added 20 digs for MC, who finish the regular season 17-14 on the year. They advance to the HCAC Tournament this weekend as a sixth seed. Tuesday's conference action will determine the host site.

Kendra Marlowe is in her second year as head coach for the Spartan volleyball program. She led the team to their first winning season last year since 1997. Prior coming to MC, Coach Marlowe was the head coach at Lawrence University in Wisconsin, where her team set a school record for most wins in a season.
- Manchester finished 6-2 in the HCAC in 2007 for a third place finish in the conference.
- First-year student Lauren Nash was named HCAC Freshman of the Year
- MC broke 11 school records last year.
