2.21.09 - MANCHESTER PLACES 9TH AT NCAA REGIONAL, FULK PLACES SECOND
Manchester's wrestling team finished ninth overall at the 2009 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, hosted by Trine University.

Spencer Fulk placed second with a 3-1 record at the heavyweight division, falling in the championship match 4-1. Chad Allen placed fifth at 133 with a 2-2 record, Jason Ray was sixth at 125, Jordan Cox took seventh at 197 and Sam Carsey finished eighth at 141 pounds.

2.13.09 - SPARTANS FINISH SECOND IN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Manchester College's wrestling team finished second out of three teams at the HCAC Championships on Friday night. Manchester fell to Mount St. Joseph 21-15 in the opening round but picked up a 42-7 win over Rose-Hulman in the third and final match of the day.

Winners against Mount St. Joseph included Jason Ray at 125 pounds, Chad Allen at 133 pounds, Jordan Cox at 197 and Spencer Fulk, winner by pin at heavyweight.

MC picked up five wins by forfeit over Rose-Hulman from Ray, Allen, Ryan Monce at 157, Kyle Carlson at 174 and Nate Hodges at 184. Sam Carsey won at 141 points, as did Cox and Fulk, who recorded his second pin of the night.

All-Conference wrestling honors went to Jason Ray, Chad Allen, Jordan Cox and Spencer Fulk.

Manchester returns to action Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Trine.

2.7.09 - MANCHESTER TAKES FIFTH OVERALL AT MIDSTATES WRESTLING CONFERENCE MEET
The Spartan wrestling team posted 74.5 points at the 2009 Midstates Wrestling Conference meet on Saturday to finish fifth overall, with MC's lone champion coming from Spencer Fulk at heavyweight. Olivet won the team title with 168 points.

Fulk also won the Most Pins Award, tallying three pins in a total time of 7:36.

Other place winners for Manchester include Ben Scalise, fourth at 133, Sam Carsey fifth at 141, Tyler Lathon fifth at 197, Ryan Monce sixth at 157 and Jordan Cox seventh at 197. MC took eighth place finishes from Kyle Carlson at 157, Chris Becker at 165 and Ben Long at heavyweight.

Manchester returns to action Friday night at home as they host the HCAC Tri-Duals meet starting at 5 p.m.


1.31.09 - MANCHESTER PLACES 28TH AT WHEATON INVITE
Manchester College's wrestling team placed 28th overall at the 2009 Wheaton College Pete Willson Invite on Saturday. Chad Allen finished 3-2 at 133 pounds, Sam Carsey ended 2-2 overall at 141 pounds, Torryn Heffelfinger ended the tournament 1-2 on the day at 149 pounds while Spencer Fulk finished 2-2 at heavyweight.

Manchester returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Olivet for the 2009 Mid-states Wrestling Conference Tournament.

1.24.09 - SPARTANS GO 0-4 AT MONON BELL DUALS
Manchester's wrestling team took part in the 2009 Monon Bell Duals hosted by Wabash College on Saturday, finishing the tournament with a 0-4 record. Manchester opened with a 30-15 loss to Lincoln. Chad Allen won at 133 pounds, as did Sam Carsey at 141 pounds, Torryn Heffelfinger at 149 and Roderick Gallegos at 184 by forfeit.

MC fell to Wilmington 22-1 with Allen, Carsey, Heffelfinger and Gallegos posted wins, as did Chris Becker at 174 pounds.

MC fell to Wabash 31 - 18, with wins coming from Allen and Carsey, as well as Ryan Monce at 157 pounds and Casey Bushong at heavyweight, winning by forfeit. MC closed out the tournament with a 45-6 loss to the University of Indianapolis, as Ben Long won by forfeit at heavyweight for MC.

Manchester returns to action this Friday and Saturday at the Wheaton College Invite.

1.17.09 - MANCHESTER TAKES SEVENTH AT SPARTAN MAT CLASSIC
Manchester's wrestling team hosted the 15th annual Spartan Mat Classic on Saturday, with Manchester finishing seventh overall with 59.5 points. Trine won the team title with an overall team score of 158.

Top place winners for Manchester included Chad Allen, second at 133 pounds, Jeff Willis, fifth at 133 pounds, Torryn Heffelfinger, fourth at 149 pounds, Tyler Lathon, seventh at 197, Spencer Fulk third at heavyweight and Tim Phelps, eighth at heavyweight.

Ethan Harris, the University of Indianapolis 133 pound wrestler was named Most Outstanding Wrestler while George Markou (157) of Trine took home the most pins/least time award with three pins in 4:59.

Manchester returns to action Saturday as the Monon Bell Duals hosted by Wabash College.



1.3.09 - MANCHESTER ELIMINATED AFTER DAY ONE ACTION FROM THE MIDWEST CLASSIC

Manchester's wrestling team placed 22nd overall at the 2009 Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Chad Allen at 133 pounds and Spencer Fulk at heavyweight finished 1-2 in the tournament.

Manchester resumes action on Saturday, January 17 as they host the annual Spartan Mat Classic.

12.13.08 - MC COMPETES AT OHIO NORTHERN INVITE
Manchester's wrestling team tied for 41st place at the 2008 Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday. Jeff Willis at 133 pounds and Clint Fisher at 149 pounds finished 1-2 on the day to lead MC.

Manchester resumes action January 3 and 4 at the Midwest Classic, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

Second-year head coach Matt Burlingame took over a Manchester wrestling program that has earned national recognition and continued success for the last 15 years. Burlingame wrestled at Div. I Virginia Tech, where he was a four-year starter and
three-time captain. He graduated 10th on the Hokies’ all-time win list.
  • Eracleo Vallejo finished fifth at the 2007 NCAA Division III national championship.
  • The Spartans have collected 12 of the last 16 conference crowns.
  • Manchester has nine regional titles and four Top 10 finishes in the NCAA Nationals.
  • In 16 years, 22 Spartan grapplers have been named Athletic All-Americans and 26 have been named Academic All-Americans.
  • MC is the only Div. III school in Indiana with a head coach who wrestled at the Div. I level.
