It’s time to nominate MU’s
2013 Alumni Teacher of the Year
Manchester University is seeking nominations for its 2013 Warren K. and Helen J. Garner Alumni Teacher of the Year.
The 2013 Warren K. and Helen J. Garner Alumni Teacher of the Year will honor a current teacher in preschool through 12, who:
• has made significant contributions to education
• provides exceptional service to the profession
• is deeply concerned for the individual students
• is able to inspire learning
The field of potential candidates is vast: Manchester has graduated more than 5,500 educators.
On May 2, Manchester’s senior teacher candidates will celebrate the profession of education with their professors and mentors. And they will get some advice from an expert: the 2013 Alumni Teacher of the Year. More than 170 teacher candidates are currently studying at Manchester; 42 graduate this spring.

The 2012 Alumni Teacher of the Year was 2006 graduate Kacina Peters Pfeiffer of Theodore Potter Elementary School 74 in Indianapolis Public Schools. Read more about Pfeiffer.
The Garners, who have endowed the Teacher of the Year recognition, are 1950 graduates of the College. A member of the Indiana Educator Hall of Fame, Warren Garner chaired the Manchester College Department of Education for more than 20 years and helped rewrite teacher training licensing standards. Helen Garner taught fifth- and sixth-graders for 22 years.
