State health, P.E. association thrives under Kim Duchane's leadership

Under the leadership of Manchester College faculty member Kim A. Duchane, the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has accomplished much in the past year:

  • Awarded $7,000 in grants
  • Awarded $6,000 in scholarships
  • Lobbied legislators for physical education in schools, healthy alternatives in school vending machines and coordinated school health
  • 5,000 Indiana K-12 students participated in the association-sponsored All Children Exercising Simultaneously Day last May
  • 70 members attended the Leadership Conference
  • Redesigned www.indiana-ahperd.org

Duchane, associate professor of health and physical education at Manchester, will end his year as president of the 1,000-member state organization Nov. 6 and now will chair the 2005 state conference.

Duchane, a North Manchester resident, joined the Manchester College faculty 12 years ago.  He also coaches youth basketball and soccer, teaches children’s church at Sweetwater Assembly of God, developed the MC Arena Walkers for participants 65 years and older, and organized an intergenerational service learning project with residents of Peabody Retirement Community.
