Manchester Symphony Orchestra teams with dance for Honeywell Center performance

In a rare collaboration this March, members of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra will travel to Wabash’s Honeywell Center to team up with contemporary dance professionals for a performance that is highly physical, yet sensitive enough to evoke an array of emotion.

Tickets are now on sale for the performance with ClancyWorks Dance Company in downtown Wabash at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 4. All tickets are $7.50; children under 12 and seniors 65 and older are free.  Corporate sponsor is Midwest Poultry Services.

Because of the high costs of live music, most dances are performed to recordings. Dancers, musicians and audiences miss the transforming experience of the interplay between live music and movement. The MSO and Honeywell Center will put dancers and a select group of musicians together on stage, weaving sight and sound.

The 50-member MSO will slim down to a chamber orchestra for this away event. (The MSO of area musicians and College students is based at Manchester College in North Manchester, directed by Suzanne Gindin, assistant professor of music.)

Original “Taking Steps” choreography by dancer Adrienne Clancy of Maryland-based ClancyWorks breathes new life to the music of Aaron Copland’s famous ballet, Appalachian Spring.  The orchestra also will perform an arrangement by Arnold Schoenberg of Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.

For tickets to the Honeywell program, seating charts and directions, visit www.honeywellcenter.org or call 800-626-6345 of 260-563-1102. The College is not handling arrangements for this program.

A brunch in Eugenia’s Restaurant in Honeywell Center will precede the performance, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brunch cost is $9.95; for reservations, call 260-563-1102.
