Manchester College pre-med student receives

scholarship to study next semester in Ecuador

Manchester College sophomore Andrea M. Numbers of Woodburn, Ind., will study in Ecuador during spring semester on a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Numbers, who is majoring in biology-chemistry and Spanish, will use the scholarship to study at Universidad San Francisco de Quito, where she will further her goals of becoming a doctor and serving others.

She is one of six Indiana recipients of the competitive scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of State and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The Gilman International Scholarship Program is designed to “better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.”

Manchester, a Church of the Brethren college, offers 45 areas of study to 1,075 students from 23 states and 30 countries. When Numbers returns to Manchester College to continue her studies next fall, she will join the first pre-med students to study in a new $17 million Science Center.
