State physical educators group
honors two Manchester students
A Manchester College junior will receive the top student honor of the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance at its state conference in November.
Melanie DeGrandchamp of Fort Wayne is 2007 Outstanding Student of the Year for her exceptional role as a future teacher. MC senior Cornelius Bambo of Indianapolis will receive the 2007 Catherine Wolf Conference Scholarship.
DeGrandchamp, who is studying to teach students with disabilities, serves on the IAHPERD Council for Future Professionals and will present a program on health at the conference. She also is secretary of Manchester’s Student Education Association chapter.
Bambo, majoring in physical education, presented his research on the attitude of preservice teachers toward students with disabilities at the 2006 conference. Bambo is president, and DeGrandchamp is treasurer of the campus Sport, Health, and Physical Education (SHAPE) club.
“I am very proud of our student leaders, said Professor Lana L. Groombridge, chair of the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. “Our SHAPE club is one of the strongest in the state. They really want to make a difference and ‘change the shape’ of Indiana.”
