for 14th president
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (Feb. 2, 2004) – Manchester
College has opened its search for its 14th president, with
nationwide advertising and a call for nominations and applications. The
profile of the perfect applicants contains no surprises: Manchester
wants another leader dedicated to academic excellence, a motivator, and
a keen fund-raiser with college financial savvy and an appreciation for
the college’s Church of the Brethren heritage.
It is anticipated a successful search will allow
the new president of the 1,170-student northeast Indiana liberal arts
college to take office on July 1, 2005. Current President Parker G.
Marden will retire on June 30, 2005, completing 11 years of remarkable
academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, fund-raising, campus
diversity and enrollment stability, even during difficult economic
Conducting the search is a 15-member
committee of college trustees and faculty, plus representatives from the
students, administrators, staff, alumni, students and the Wabash County
community. The deadline for nominations is March 15; with an April 1
deadline for applications.
J. Bentley Peters, chair of the Presidential Search
Committee and vice chair of the Manchester College Board of Trustees,
said “We are blessed with a great opportunity and the interest in this

Manchester is an independent, co-educational Church
of the Brethren college accredited with North Central Association. The
church and the college have historic peace, service and citizenship
roots that are reflected in the college’s mission statement. While
students are from 29 states and 33 countries, about 83 percent are
Indiana residents. The 115-year-old college is situated within the North
Manchester community of 6,700 residents.
