Youths will explore cooking and baking techniques in a professional kitchen at two Manchester University camps designed just for them this summer.
The three-day camps led by MU Executive Chef Chris Fogerty are on the North Manchester campus, where Chartwell’s prepares more than 315,000 meals every year for MU students and guests. Both are day camps, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both are for students ages 10-14 with or without home kitchen experience.
Students enrolled in Culinary 101 will practice grilling and sautéing, menu planning, kitchen safety and meal budgeting. They will learn how to use flavor and color to make their meals amazing. This course if offered June 30 through July 2. Cost is $135 per camper, lunch included, of course.
In Bakery 101, students will learn techniques for baking from scratch, including how to use baking tools, about sweet sauces, candy and dessert designing. While not required, students may find it helpful to take Culinary 101 first. Bakery 101 is offered July 14-16. Cost is $135 per camper, lunch included.
