You may not recognize her face, but you might recognize her voice!
Meet star fundraiser Emily Schieber ’09, who graduated May 24 with a degree in elementary education. As a three-year member of the student Phonathon team, Emily raised $77,735 for the College, connecting with 4,759 alumni and friends.
Other impressive statistics: Emily dialed the phone 12,096 times and garnered 527 pledges for The Manchester Fund.
“This is absolutely stunning productivity, which I think we can attribute to a combination of Emily’s excellent people skills, ability to talk articulately and persuasively and plain old persistence,” said President Jo Young Switzer.
Emily understands that tuition didn’t cover the cost of her Manchester College education. Like all students, she received financial assistance.
“Philanthropy allowed me to continue at Manchester College,” says Emily, of Goshen, Ind. “If it weren’t for the money people had given, I wouldn't have had the best four years of my life.I was able to grow and become a better person through the help of the friends, family and alumni of Manchester College.”
While at Manchester, Schieber was involved in Hall Council, Student Education Association and choir. Skills she gained as a Phonathoner have given her skills she can use when she lands a job teaching. “The job has helped develop my people skills and the ability to listen, and it will help when I have to call my student’s parents,” notes Emily.
