Taizé candlelight service of music,

meditation is Jan. 23 at Manchester College

The Wabash County community is invited to join the warmth of a candlelight Taizé worship service at Manchester College on Sunday, Jan. 23. The Christian service of prayer, beautiful music and Scripture readings begins at 7 p.m. in Petersime Chapel on the campus mall.

Taizé worship includes simple choruses, string and woodwind instruments, scripture, prayer and silence in a candlelit atmosphere that centers the worshiper on God. The meditative worship originated in the Taizé monastic community in eastern France, which draws thousands of youth and young adults from across Europe and the world each year. Learn more about the Taizé community at www.taize.fr.

The service at the College, in collaboration with the Manchester Church of the Brethren, involves local musicians and students on piano, oboe, cello and violin and readings from Psalms, Isaiah and John in several languages. Light refreshments will follow in the chapel lounge.

Manchester is a Church of the Brethren college that welcomes students and faculty of all faiths. More than 30 denominations are represented on the North Manchester campus.
