What
should students value, know, and be able to do by the time they
graduate from Manchester University? They should be able and eager
to:
- think
critically and creatively
- use
knowledge wisely
- communicate
clearly
- exercise
good judgment
- participate
in dialogue across differences
- apply
these skills for the common good
The
Manchester University mission
statement says it in words that match the campus values:
We
“seek to graduate people who possess ability and conviction
. . . and an acceptance of the demands of responsible citizenship.”
At
Manchester University, students can have the advantages of both the
liberal
arts and pre-professional
training. Athletic trainers, teachers, and accountants graduate
with very specific skills that they bring to their first jobs. At
the same time, they graduate with knowledge of the liberal arts
that will prepare them to adapt to change, use critical thinking,
be open to lifelong learning, and be good citizens.
How
does this happen?
