| Biographical/Historical Note: |
S. Bruce Kauffman '68 Managing director of the investment firm Fischer Francis Trees & Watts in New York, Kauffman was responsible for client relationships. He built and opened an office in Singapore for the firm. Prior to that position, he worked at Goldman, Sachs and Co., New York. After graduating from Manchester College, he earned a master's degree from Wharton School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania and a doctoral degree in religion and literature from the University of Chicago. He taught in the school of religious studies at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., from 1973 until 1979. Kauffman died June 21, 1996 at the age of 49 in New York City following a three-year illness. The Bruce Kauffman Award: In honor of the memory of Bruce Kauffman, a graduate who was a scholar, musician, and financier, Mark Johnston, a generous benefactor and Bruce’s college roommate, established a memorial endowment fund for Manchester College students who choose to study abroad or in special programs in the U.S. during their undergraduate years. The fund makes off-campus study possible for students who are not likely to be able to undertake such study because of financial constraints. See also MC 811.52 Au23zk. |
