| Biographical/Historical Note: | Mary Elizabeth Leonard graduated from Manchester College in 1922. Jan Leonard writes about this individual: "Mary was always such a contradiction with her background. She was a twin (the twin did not attend college) from a well-to-do farm family in Fredericktown, Ohio. After college she traveled with six friends up into Canada, across to California and back through the Western States. She married a doctor and traveled the world. After his death she married a farmer and became an excellent cook. Never having children gave her time to serve her church and community. She was a very intellectual woman with a strong sense of duty - so prevalent among people who lived through the great depression." |
