Biographical/Historical Note: The Manchester College Peace Studies Institute and the Goshen College Peace Studies Society sponsored a joint seminar/retreat March 1976.  Philip Berrigan and Elizabeth McAlister were invited as guest resource persons.  Reprinted in the "bulletin" are the adapted speeches given by both at Manchester College's Convocation series and at a symposium on the Goshen College campus.

Phil Berrigan was a Josephite priest with a ministry among African American individuals.  He grew to be associated with anti war action, especially against the war in Vietnam, in the form of civil disobedience.  He was involved in actions on the East Coast since the beginning of the resistance to the war in Vietnam.  For these acts Phil was imprisoned numerous times.  Liz McAlister joined the religious community as a nun at an early age and during these years found herself called to resistance action.  She participated in many anti-war actions since the sixties, and was indicted a number of times.

Scope and Content Note: 1.One black and white photograph taken at Petersime Chapel during the seminar/retreat.  It includes Phil and Liz and one of their children.

3.  One Magazine, "The Holy Cross Quarterly," Vol. 4, No. 1, January 1971.  The issue covers the convictions of blood brothers, Dan and Phil Berrigan.
