Frantz, Robert MC2002/104a
GF Transcript from interview with Robert Frantz, 15 August 1988. This is from one of a series of interview tapes done under the support of the Lily funds received by Manchester College in 1987, although Lily funding has not been mentioned as funding for every interview.  The Archivist is making an assumption based upon a note.  Interviews included those by Wilbur Dunbar, Lola Sanger, T. Q. Evans, Robert Frantz, Dr. Phillip Orpurt.  David Waas was probably also interviewed at that time (transcript is undated).  General File see: Transcripts, then in alphabetical order.

Frey, Velma GF Transcription from one of a series of interview tapes done under the support of the Lily funds received by Manchester College in 1987....although Lily funding was mentioned only in one interview and the Archivist is making an assumption about funding for all.  Velma Frey worked at Manchester College particularly in the areas of financial aid and career planning and placement, in the college's early years.  The interview probably took place in 1988 along with Wilbur Dunbar, Lola Sanger, T. Q. Evans, Robert Frantz, Dr. Phillip Orpurt.  David Waas was probably also interviewed at that time (transcript is undated).  General File see: Transcripts, then in alphabetical order.

Howe, Francis O. MC2007/116

Francis was the second son of first College President David Howe and David's first wife, Delilah.  Francis (Frank) was an instrumental music teacher at Manchester College 1899-1900.  Frank was also the Inventor/founder of the Howe Vacuum Bait Company.  The obituary states:

In 1894 when under the direction of Miss Maude Quivey, he became greatly interested in music, and that was his life work, many of the young people of this vicinity getting their musical instruction and inspiration from him, he giving them a fatherly interest and care.......

One of his brothers in speaking of Frank, said: Some men are builders of steel; others are strong on finance; some love the gift of speech, but there was a man whose soul was touched by music, the language of the soul."

Frank's obituary can be found in the David Howe materials (see MC General File, Faculty/Staff, Howe, David).

An obituary for Frank's wife (Irma), a brother (Earl), Earl's wife (Clara), Frank's son (Robert Bruce), daughter-in-law (Mrs. Robert Bruce Howe [Emma Jane]), can be found in the David Howe materials as well.
