Convocation #83: Durnbaugh, Donald F., "Confessions of a Searcher"MC2011/22 

In this 9/29/1980 ceremony, Donald F. Durnbaugh receives the degree, Doctor of Humane Letters.  The degree is conferred by President Helman. Dr. Durnbaugh then gives the presentation, "Confessions of a Searcher."

Also See: Convocation Cassette Tape #83. The tape records the ceremony from the initial organ prelude.

For another presentation by Dr. Durnbaugh listen to his 1986 Baccalaureate address, "Faith Seeking Understanding." This cassette tape is in the cassette tape drawers (in a lower drawer) and has also been digitized onto a CD.  The CD is in a CD holder on top of the cassette tape drawers.

His dates at Mount Morris spanned from 1924-1932.   When a fire forced Mount Morris to close its doors and merge with Manchester College, Neher came to Manchester and taught Biology from 1932-1954.

    C.P.S. Unit 101 Registrar's Records along with a brief history and reference material describing the creation of CPS Camp 101 and its sub-camps, of which Manchester College was one. Manchester College's 10-week program was directed locally by Dr. Andrew W. Cordier.  The sixty-seventy CPS'ers were chosen by Brethren Service Committee, and the plan was for them to leave the country and begin relief and rehabilitation work immediately after the program's completion.

    Dr. Garner, who had been affiliated with the Environmental Protection Agency, talks about pollution, the auto industry, catalytic converters and their pollutants, consumption for consumption sake, oil shortages, and the idea that "technology can disrupt nature but it can't transcend it."  To help control pollution and our environment we must ask ourselves,  "What REALLY are our NEEDS and not our DESIRES?" Fulfilling our material desires will lead to more production and to more pollution.

    Later in the tape, President Helman is captured giving an address about Manchester College and higher education in a Christian college. He also touches on environmental concerns. This tape was probably recorded over several times.
