Bio History Note
The beliefs of the Ephrata Community were similar to beliefs of the brethren. The community was founded in 1732 by Johann Conrad Beissel following his separation from what would become the Conestoga Brethren congretaion. Three single men and two single women followed Beissel to the banks of the Cocalico Creek, placing themselves under Beissel's leadership. [See more information in the Brethren Encyclopedia.]The genealogical information in this booklet might be helpful to Brethren trying to trace family roots.
