Professor Lana Groombridge made this CD as a present for her sister, Ann Lawver. The original recording was done on a reel-to-reel tape in the old College gym. The singers made copies of the recording on cassette tapes.
Ann Blair, Jan Deaton, Dodie Heiny, Ann Lawver, and Linda Zumbrun were the student artists who sang these songs. This was an independent group of Manchester College students unrelated to the College's music program.
Ann Blair had received some music training and functioned as the group's "coach." Jan Deaton was primarily the lead singer and Ann Lawver, Linda Zumbrun, Doralee Heiny were MC College athletes who were able to harmonize well.
Jim Garber and President Helman asked "The Lovin' Sound" to sing at various College sponsored functions and the group also performed at coffeehouses, mother-and daughter banquets and other special events. Sometimes they received a little extra income from these appearances. Terry Pettit, who would become a famous women's volleyball coach, asked the group to sing backup music at his Manchester College Senior Convocation circa 1968. This was an honor since the women were not Seniors at this point in time.
2011 Note: Dodie Heiny is now Dodie or Doralee Harte.
