Relief and Rehabilitation: C.P.S. Unit 101, Registrar's RecordsMC2004/9 

C.P.S. Unit 101 Registrar's Records along with a brief history and reference material describing the creation of CPS Camp 101 and its sub-camps, of which Manchester College was one. Manchester College's 10-week program was directed locally by Dr. Andrew W. Cordier.  The sixty-seventy CPS'ers were chosen by Brethren Service Committee, and the plan was for them to leave the country and begin relief and rehabilitation work immediately after the program's completion.

History: Indiana, Town of North Manchester and LocalMC2009/34 

Author, Theodore Dreiser, visited North Manchester during the summer of 1915.  His observations of the community were included in his autobiography, "A Hoosier Holiday."  John Knarr writes about Dreiser's family and includes material on the Snap/Snepp/Sheneb/Shenep/Schneb/Schnebb family as well as on the Fruit family.

A second article, "A Trip to Niagara Falls, 1925," was discovered among papers donated to the North Manchester Center for History by Descendants of Ellis and Harold Miller.

About 61 plants are recorded in this personal notebook kept by Ezra N. Goshorn, thought to be a student at Mt. Morris College, Illinois.  The book spans 17 April 1889 through 29 July 1897.  The preprinted formatted notebook is entitled, “APGAR’S PLANT ANALYSIS: Adapted to Gray’s Botanies," by E. A. and A. C. Apgar.

 
Wampler, Sadie Irene Stutsman: Hand O Graphs BookMC2011/126 

Sadie Stutsman Wampler graduated from Manchester College in 1916.  This is the same year that she began entries in "The Hand O Graphs" book, and kept make entries for years following. This book comes with the instructions: Place your hand, palm downwards, on the paper and trace outline.  There are a couple examples given, and then the individual is on her own to gather outlines of the hands of friends, family and celebrities on the following pages.  It is like an autograph book for hands.  The name of the individual is also recorded along with the date.

Lassa Fever: President Jo Young Switzer, Parkview North, HonoreesMC2011/191 

This file contains a copy of August 2011 Notes from the President in which a mural at Parkview North emergency room is described. President Jo was asked to paint a square of the mural that depicts an "Everyday Star" whose non-work life embraces generosity and service.  She chose John Hamer (MC Class of 1948) who worked with his wife, Esther (MC Class of 1950) as medical missionaries in Nigeria.  Besides being a physician, Dr. Hamer was a scientiest who helped to discover one of the world's deadliest viruses -- Lassa Fever.

Two other Manchester College graduates were honored as being "Everyday Stars" in the mural, Dr. Jane Weaver (Everyday Star #156) and Daryl Yost (Everyday Star #108).
