Academic Research

1. Don't rely on Google for everything!

2. Focus on scholarly literature (see the Articles tab for more information).

3. Perform more than one search!

4. Evaluate the information you find using the criteria in the box above.

5. Ask for help! The text-a-librarian service is a quick and easy way to get help from a librarian.

CREDIBLE GOOGLE SEARCHING
  1. Begin your search combining keywords as necessary
  2. Consider adding a credible URL ending to your search (.gov, .edu, .org)

searching Google
When adding an ending URL, type your search terms and add the following: site:.gov (make sure no space is in between the colon and the dot).

Also take note that Google automatically assumes the Boolean Operator "AND" in between words.

Another approach is to:

  1. Begin your search combining keywords as necessary
  2. Use the left side filters to narrow your search (click More to see additional options)
