2008
The Lilly Plowshares Grant to
strengthen peace studies across the curriculum at Manchester College
concludes this academic year. The remaining $25,000 in this portion
of the grant must be expended by June 30, 2008. For the two
remaining funding cycles, grants of up to $4,000 will be awarded for
faculty research, course development, or teaching enrichment where
they broadly relate to peace, justice, and reconciliation. Faculty
in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
To apply for a Plowshares
faculty development grant, write a 2-3 page proposal addressing the
following four points:
- Describe
your professional development plan for which you are requesting
a Plowshares grant. Carefully explain how you will relate
peace and justice concerns to your field of study through the
proposed experience/project. Include such information as how
you plan to use the money, where you plan to go, what
conference(s) you plan to attend, etc.
- Explain how
your plan will enrich your teaching, enhance your scholarship,
or contribute to the development of a course.
- Include a
brief budget indicating how the grant monies will be expended.
- Write a
brief plan for implementing what you have learned in your
teaching and/or scholarship.
You may request up to $4,000.
Submit your proposal via email to Tim McElwee (tamcelwee@manchester.edu),
or through campus mail at Box 142, by March 3, 2008 for
awards in summer 2008. All summer grant monies must be received by
June 30, 2008. The Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs and
the Peace Studies Council will review applications. Priority
will be given to proposals from faculty members who have not
previously received a Plowshares grant, and to proposals that
promise to have a lasting impact on teaching and scholarship
pertaining to issues of peace and justice within the college
curriculum. Direct questions to Tim McElwee by email, or at ext.
