The sabbatical should represent a contribution to Manchester University, the department, and
the individual professor. It should center on one or more of the following themes: scholarship,
pedagogy, and/or language or disciplinary enhancement. The sabbatical is a privilege to be
earned; it is not guaranteed.

A sabbatical leave proposal should include the following components:
a description of the specific project ("scholarship, pedagogy, and/or language or disciplinary enhancement") that you will undertake during your leave;
a description of how the proposed project relates to your teaching, research, or artistic endeavors;
a discussion of how the sabbatical project will affect your teaching or research when you return from the leave;
a discussion of how the project will have an impact on the University;
a list of criteria by which the faculty member and FDC can evaluate the success of the sabbatical upon return;
a copy of the faculty member's previous sabbatical report (if the faculty member had an earlier sabbatical);
a review and self-evaluation of your work at the University, with particular attention to your teaching;
a current, complete curriculum vitae
a letter of recommendation for the department chair (see appendix in the faculty manual)
