MU employees put Students First!
Time and time again, the people who pass through Manchester attribute who they are, how far they have come and what they have achieved to a faculty or staff member.
Maybe it was a small act of kindness delivered at a time of true need. Or the passion for a subject that caught the student’s imagination and kindled the desire to pursue it. Or simply words of encouragement that gave a student confidence to succeed.
Faculty and staff members know that the $100 million Students First! campaign secures Manchester University and their jobs. By supporting the campaign, they are fulfilling the MU Mission to an even greater degree. Every faculty member and two-thirds of the staff – from custodian to executive – are members of the Students First! team.
They each have a personal reason. Many give automatically by payroll deduction, others write a check, or even quicker, use an online form. They give to The Manchester Fund, to scholarships, for learning spaces and opportunities.
“The generosity of our faculty and staff members continues to show their commitment to our Mission,” said President Jo Young ’69 Switzer. “We are very thankful for the many different ways they support Manchester.”
This year, to celebrate staff progress (and to encourage a little friendly competition), each department that achieved 100 percent participation received a visit from Mr. Chet, the fundraising squirrel. The Admissions team is pictured above with the critter.
“I contribute because I am alumna of Manchester and know that if it was not for the support of the alumni, faculty and staff that I would not have the same opportunities that I did when I was here,” said Brandi Chauncey ’01, associate director for recruitment and transfer student coordinator. “I want to be able to hear a student talk about an amazing experience at MU and know that I helped make that happen.”
