1930s

Nora Stauffer ’34 Hollinger of Gainesville, Fla., celebrated her 95th birthday on Feb. 26 with her entire family. She is retired from teaching and nursing.

Ray Hendrickson ’39 of Elkhart, Ind., and wife Opal celebrated 70 years of marriage in July. He was a teacher and principal for Elkhart Community Schools before retiring in 1976.

1940s

Harry Reinoehl ’41 of Ashley, Ind., and wife Hilda celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their family. The couple is retired from farming.

Earl Sharp ’43 of Warren, Ind., received the Asbury Theological Seminary Faithful Servant Award in recognition of a lifetime of faithful ministry of proclaiming the Gospel in work and deed.

1950s

Sue Weaver ’56 Strickler of Kansas City, Mo., and husband Bob traveled to London, England in June 2007. Upon their return, she presented to the Kansas City Musical Club on their visit to the Handel House Museum and her article on the visit was published in Music Clubs Magazine of the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Joan LeValley ’57 of Park Ridge, Ill., is 2008 Accountant of the Year for the 30,000-member National Society of Accountants. For a third time, she is Person of the Year of the Independent Accountants Association of Illinois. LeValley owns JCL and Company.

Richard Beam ’58 of Fort Wayne has donated 327 units of platelets in the last decade, most recently with the Indiana Blood Center. An organ transplant, for example, requires about 30 units to help control bleeding.

Albert ’58 and Janis Moore ’58 Bohnstedt of Fort Wayne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house. Both are retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools, where they worked from 1961 to 1994.

Carolyn Schuler ’58 Eppley of Wabash, Ind., and husband Dean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She is a private piano teacher, organist and choir director at her church.

Esther Anderson ’58 Wagner of North Manchester and husband Duane celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August.

William Sheridan ’59x of South Bend, Ind., retired from 30 years as a business manager and 13 years in banking. He is employed with Utilimaster Corp. custom vehicles in Wakarusa, Ind.

1960s

Loren Finnell ’64 of Larchmont, N.Y., has learned that The Resource Foundation has received the coveted four-star rating from Charity Navigator for its organizational efficiency and sound fiscal management. Finnell is president and CEO of The Resource Foundation, a partner in sustainable, self-help development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cheryl Jamerson ’68 Downs of Rochester, Ind., has retired after 37 years with Rochester School Corp. She started as a teacher and became principal of Columbia Elementary School in 1992.

Joy Warner ’68 Stiffler of North Manchester has retired after 40 years of teaching in Warsaw Community Schools, including 35 years at Warsaw High School.

Donna Holsopple ’69 Myers of Toledo, Ohio, was recognized for 25 years of service at the 2008 Ohio Music Education Convention. She has taught music in kindergarten through eighth grades for St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in Toledo for 22 years. She has served as organist/pianist for Church of the Cross United Methodist in Toledo for 13 years.

Diana Hegel ’69 Rapp of Wabash, Ind., retired after 39 years of teaching for Metro North Elementary School of Metropolitan School District of Wabash County.

1970s

Deloss Brubaker ’70 of Canton, Ga., is associate professor of sport health science for Life University in Marietta, Ga.

Lillian Wells ’70 Livers of Madison, Ind., was appointed to the Ivy Tech Community College Board of Directors by Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Peggy Reiff Miller ’70 of Milford, Ind., authored and produced a documentary, A Tribute to the Seagoing Cowboys, released at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in July. Learn more at www.seagoingcowboys.com.

Myrna Grove ’71 of Bryan, Ohio has written a book of tribute, Alexander Mack: A Man Who Rippled the Waters, published by The Brethren Press in celebration of the congregation’s 300th anniversary.

Patrice Kump ’73 Nightingale of Streamwood, Ill., is interim director of communications for Brethren Benefit Trust. She continues as manager of publications.

James Gaier ’74 of North Manchester has received two prestigious awards from NASA: the Space Flight Awareness Honoree Award and the Exceptional Achievement Medal for his important work on lunar dust effects. (Read more about Gaier on the NASA website.)

Mark Stockslager ’75 of Alpharetta, Ga., is chief financial officer for SunLink Health Systems Inc., a healthcare provider for hospitals and related businesses in four southern states.

David Eicher ’76 of Louisville, Ky., is hymnal editor for Presbyterian Publishing Corp., responsible for developing and publishing a new Presbyterian hymnal and related musical publications.

Nancy Walker ’76 Hoffman of Wabash, Ind., was honored by ARC of Wabash County for her 32 years of service, most recently as executive director. ARC is a not-forprofit agency that serves adults and children with developmental disabilities and their families.

Lillian Miller ’76 Long of Philippi, W.Va., received the 2008 Outstanding Faculty Award at commencement ceremonies of Alderson- Broaddus College in May. An associate professor of music, she has served the college 22 years, teaching voice, organ, piano accompanying and related courses.

Debra Davis ’77 Futa of South Bend, Ind., wrote a grant that brought the prestigious Leighton Award for Nonprofit Excellence ($100,000 to be matched) to the St. Joseph County Public Library. The award recognizes the library’s enduring excellence in innovation, design and customer service.

Ann Stevenson ’77 of Muncie, Ind., received a master’s degree in psychotherapy and faith from Christian Theological Seminary and is a therapist for Youth Services Bureau, Muncie.

Timothy A. McElwee ’78 of Conway, Ark., former director of the Peace Studies Institute and former vice president for college advancement at Manchester College, is senior director of development for Heifer International Foundation, based in Little Rock. He leads major gifts fundraising for Heifer International.

Daniel J. Hoffman ’79 of McPherson, Kan., is an associate professor of physical education for McPherson College. He has served the college for 26 years.

1980s

Linda Knoll ’80 Arney of LaPorte, Ind., teaches English and is head debate coach for LaPorte High School. Each of her six years as coach, LaPorte debaters have qualified for the national championships. She was an Indiana district Teacher of the Year.

Kip Cook ’81 of Plymouth, Ind., traveled to England in August with his two daughters. He served as support person for his daughter Mallory Mead, as she swam the English Channel in 10 hours and 14 minutes. (Read more about the swim.)

Gary Kerns ’83 of Worthington, Ind., owns two convenience stores in Greene County, Ind.

Christine Bazini ’83 Sands of Syracuse, Ind., owner of Sands Accounting Inc., has purchased the Ligonier accounting practice of Samuel Patton.

Brett Boggs ’84 of Akron, Ind., is superintendent of Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. He has served the school district 30 years, as teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent.

Mary Boudreau ’84 of Lansing, Mich., completed her licensure as a Registered Nurse through Lansing Community College and is a medical case manager for Lansing Area AIDS Network.

Kelley Collins ’84 of Granger, Ind., is officer’s assistant to the vice president and associate provost of University of Notre Dame. She has an MBA and has served Notre Dame 10 years.

Beth Messner ’84 of Muncie, Ind., associate professor of communication studies, received Ball State University’s 2008 Outstanding Faculty Service Award. The BSU College of Communication, Information and Media also presented her with its 2008 Outstanding Social Responsibility Award.

Ron Miller ’84 of Indianapolis received an MBA from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in May 2008. He is vice president of Crystal Food Services.

Nevin Dulabaum ’87 of Elgin, Ill., is president of Brethren Benefit Trust, which manages $450 million for 6,000 members and clients nationwide.

Vicky Miller ’89 Fry of Logansport, Ind., is studying fulltime at Indiana University Kokomo toward an education degree and teaching certificate. She has served as a substitute teacher and teacher’s assistant.

Jon Hess ’89 of Oakwood, Ohio chairs the Department of Communication at University of Dayton. He formerly was director of graduate studies in communication for University of Missouri. His scholarship centers on relationship maintenance.

Scott Sproat ’91 of Auburn, Ind., is executive vice president of sales and marketing and co-owner of the Fort Wayne Komets professional hockey club, the IHL 2008 Turner Cup Champions.

Paul K. Strode ’91 of Boulder, Colo., is co-author of Why Evolution Works (and Creationism Fails), to be published next spring by Rutgers University Press. He teaches biology at Boulder High School and is an adjunct professor for the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Greta Yoder ’92 Slater of Indianapolis is assistant professor of social work for Ball State University in Muncie.

Xavier Cortal ’93 of Girona, Spain owns a waste management company, a beach restaurant and other businesses. He has visited 142 countries and is planning his next trip to Antarctica.

David Cullers ’93 ’94ma of Bremen, Ind., received the “Forty Under 40” award of the Michiana Regional Chambers of Commerce, the Elkhart Truth, South Bend Tribune and Bethel College for professional contribution in the workplace, dedication to community service and volunteerism. Joseph Tamba Koroma ’97 of Bremerton, Wash., is associate dean of student financial services for Olympic College, where he also teaches economic geography. In May 2008, he received a Ph.D. in economic geography from Indiana State University. The title of his dissertation was “Geography, Poverty, and Policy in the New African Millennium Monitoring the Millennium Development Goals Through the U.N. Human Development Index.”
