Manchester Symphony Orchestra: Making beautiful music for 70 years
The Manchester Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 70th season of collaboration of community, school and College musicians.
Wayne Van Der Weele ’49 donated photographs and programs to the Archives from when he performed as a student in the horn section of the “North Manchester Civic and Manchester College Symphony Orchestra,” conducted by Dr. Samuel L. Flueckiger.
The Orchestra relies on memberships, gifts and endowments, and the College, which also provides the faculty conductor. Today, 56 musicians (including 22 community, staff and faculty members and 16 College students) comprise the MSO. The 11th conductor is Dr. Scott Humphries, visiting assistant professor of music. Professional musicians join the orchestra on concert weekends.
The MSO enriches the community with four annual concerts, workshops and musical presentations by small group ensembles.
