IT’S A TRADITION AT MANCHESTER COLLEGE: Students come first – from the comfortable class sizes, cross-discipline teaching, January study, faculty expertise and scholarship, to the athletes around the study tables in the Success Center, and the graduate-level and other exciting side-by-side experiences with faculty.
Frankly, tuition and fees just don’t cover it. The College’s annual fund makes up the difference, creating those opportunities uniquely Manchester.
More than 3,400 Manchester Fund donors and families provide more than $2 million in vital support that enables Manchester College to:
Attract and maintain superb teachers dedicated to the “ah-hah!” moment, who embrace the College mission and thrive in the Manchester College community.
Create an engaging new Core curriculum that enables students to learn across disciplines, beyond their majors, and graduate well-prepared not only in the skills of their chosen professions, but also with the tools to communicate effectively, participate in change and make a difference.
Remain a college of opportunity. More than a quarter of MC students are the first in their families to attend college and every student receives financial aid. Students this year are receiving $15.6 million in donor-funded scholarships and other financial aid.
Set amazing enrollment records. Manchester’s budget is enrollment-driven: 87 percent comes from tuition, room and board payments. The first-year class is the largest in 26 years, the result of investment in highly trained recruiting and effective strategies.
Create learning environments. Campus employees hustled over the summer to prepare for the record class, finding faculty and technology-smart space for 21 additional class sections, retrofitting retired living spaces and designing on-the-go meal service.
Speed up technology. More than 200 plodding computers were replaced with new high-performance systems over the summer while MC’s technical team spanned wireless access almost campus-wide.
Support student discoveries. The teaching resource center contains thousands of textbooks and curricular materials for education majors. The Funderburg Library collection encompasses 180,000 bound volumes, 620 periodical subscriptions, 5,600 sound and video recordings and online subscriptions to 50 reference databases.
Maintain. Donations to The Manchester Fund keep the campus vans and rental buses rolling to athletic events and Camp Mack Day, repair classroom lights and boilers, provide H1N1precautions, and fulfill hundreds of other essential, everyday needs.
Because The Manchester Fund supports the most pressing needs of the College, gifts to this annual fund have an immediate impact on current students. In fact, a $100 gift to The Manchester Fund will have more impact on current students than a $2,200 gift to the endowment. Yes, Manchester Fund gifts are that important.
Manchester also uses the fund to leverage foundation philanthropy. The higher the percentage of alumni, faculty and staff giving, the better the College’s opportunity for significant grants. Such giving, no matter the amount, demonstrates commitment to Manchester College.
Every gift matters. Hugely.
