J. GORDON KEEVER ’47 of Brookville, Ohio, who served 37 years on the Manchester College Board of Trustees, including three terms as chair, was a member of the M Association and the A Cappella Choir. He retired as assistant treasurer of NCR Corp. in 1985 after 36 years service. He tended livestock as a “seagoing cowboy” on a shipment overseas by Heifer International. Rose Krall ’59 Ditto of Wamego, Kan., is serving a two-year term as international president of General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which has members in all 50 states and more than a dozen countries.


Paul Nye ’60 of Plymouth, Ind., is interim pastor for First Presbyterian Church in Plymouth.

James Hollis ’62 of Houston, Texas has authored a new book, What Matters Most, delivering a unique look at happiness, sharing a Jungian approach to finding a fearless, authentic path.

Larry Martin ’63 of Leo, Ind., won a gold medal with his softball team in the Senior Games in St. George, Utah last summer. His team competed in the age 65-69 major division.

James M. Beard ’65 of Salisbury, N.C., has published a textbook, Environmental Chemistry in Society, intended for non-science majors.
Professor Beard is chair of the Chemistry Department for Catawba College in Salisbury.

Larry Ulrich ’65 of Lombard, Ill., has been re-elected secretary of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago and is active in many interfaith organizations and ministries in his area.

Norman M. Kiracofe ’66 of Kalamazoo, Mich., has retired from Western Michigan University as professor of counselor education and counseling
psychology. His career has spanned 35 years, 22 at Western Michigan as
director of the University Counseling and Testing Center and then as a
professor, and 13 years as director of counseling and orientation for Buffalo State College of State University of New York.

Neil ’66 and Carol Ludwig ’66 Meeks of North Manchester are both retired, Neil after 10 years at The Ford Meter Box Company Inc., and Carol after 38 years as an elementary school teacher.

Terry Troxell ’66 of Shirley, Ind., is national vice president of the National
Association of Professional Bargainers, which supports individuals employed full time in collective bargaining. He has bargained more than 35 years for the Indiana State Teachers Association.

Stanley Yake ’66 of Fort Wayne is retired after 42 years in education and then construction.

Mike “Doc” Emrick ’68 of Michigan has received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award, the highest honor of the Hockey Hall of Fame for contributions to hockey broadcasting. Emrick, the pre-eminent National Hockey League (NHL) play-by-play broadcaster in the United States, is the television voice of the New Jersey Devils, and calls the NHL Stanley Cup Championship series, as well as Olympic ice hockey and water polo.

Randolph Swanson ’68 of Winona Lake, Ind., was appointed to the Winona Lake Town Council in a November caucus.

Glen Dillman ’69 of Flora, Ind., was 2008 Distinguished Teacher of the Year of the Indiana Council for the Social Studies. He teaches eighth-grade social studies and world history for Carroll Jr./Sr. High School at Flora. He has taught 40 years, all in Carroll Consolidated School Corp. He and Martha Miller ’69x Dillman in December celebrated the 40th anniversary of their
marriage in Petersime Chapel.

Patricia Winslow ’69 Yake of Fort Wayne has retired after 33 years in education. She was a counselor for South Adams Schools in Berne, south of Fort Wayne.


Angie Briner ’70 of Silver Lake, Ind., is director of social services for Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.

Bob Burcroff ’70 of Wabash, Ind., was named Mr. Alumni at Wabash High School’s homecoming in September. He has chaired the school Math Department, served as president of the Wabash City Teachers Association for many years, as boys’ track assistant coach for 10 years, boys’ track head coach for nine years, boys’ golf head coach for 18 years and girls’ golf head coach for nine years.

Kent Kimpel ’70 of Plymouth, Ind., has retired after 12 years as a uniserv
director for the Indiana State Teachers Association. He taught social studies for 27 years at Peru High School.

Mike Wolfe ’71 of Mesa, Ariz., and his Robson Ranch slow-pitch softball team won the national tournament for seniors and played in the Senior World Series in Phoenix. Mike, the shortstop, was series MVP.

Ron Rench ’73 of Soddy- Daisy, Tenn., is head coach of the Tennessee Central Xpress minor league professional football team’s inaugural season.

Larry Wiser ’73 of Germantown, Ohio, retired after more than 35 years in
public health. He served as director of environmental health and sanitarian
administrator for the Warren County Combined Health District in Lebanon, Ohio.

Paul Fry-Miller ’75 of North Manchester was highlighted in The Journal Gazette newspaper in Fort Wayne for commuting down the Kenapocomoco River (Eel River) in his kayak to his job as a physician assistant for Manchester Clinic.

Bernie Landes ’75 of Garrett, Ind., is an Energy Doctor Inc. distributor,
performing assessments on homes and commercial buildings to recommend
ways to save energy.

Chris Bryan ’76 of Mishawaka, Ind., was re-elected treasurer at the Indiana State Chiropractic Association’s annual conference in November. He started in private practice in 1981, specializing in low back, neck, auto injury trauma and spinal rehabilitation.

Debra Davis ’77 Futa of South Bend, Ind., wrote a grant for St. Joseph County Public Library that resulted in the prestigious Leighton Award of the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County. The grant, totaling $110,000, celebrates excellence and sustainability in the nonprofit sector.

Chris Garber ’77 of North Manchester, who is president of the Town Council and associate vice president for financial affairs/director of operations for the College, was honored in January as 2008 Citizen of the Year of the North Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

Robert Jaboe ’77 of Mentone, Ind., is the spiritual counselor for Kosciusko
County Home Care & Hospice Inc. He is developing a relaxation therapy program that begins with music.

Carolyn Snyder ’79 Sain of Albuquerque, N.M., was 2008 Adaptive Physical
Education Co-Teacher of the Year in Albuquerque, honored by the New Mexico Alliance for Health Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

Jeff White ’79 of Goodlettsville, Tenn., performed at a bluegrass show in Bloomington, Ind., in January and then joined a month-long tour with the
Irish band, the Chieftains. White, who has played with Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Patty Loveless and Lyle Lovett, has two albums with Rounder Records: Broken Road and The White Album.


Harriet Hamer, M.D. ’80 of South Bend, Ind., served as 2006-2008 president of Indiana Society of Anesthesiologists. During her leadership, the 800-physician organization developed office-based surgery and anesthesia safety regulations for Indiana that Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law in May 2008.

Becky Middleton ’80 of Richmond, Ind., is in her 22nd year of teaching business and computer applications for Tri-Village High School in New Madison, Ohio.

Paul “Pablo” Ulerick ’80 of Twelve Mile, Ind., is vice president of sales for
SciHealth Inc., which provides quality improvement and data management solutions to hospitals and healthcare organizations.

Melinda Lantz ’81 of North Manchester has joined the Manchester College
advancement team as grants and advancement writer. She previously was
assistant managing editor for design at The Elkhart Truth daily newspaper in northern Indiana.

Michael S. Lamb, CPA/PFS, CFP ’82 of Dayton, Ohio, is a partner in Goldshot, Lamb & Hobbs Inc., certified public accountants and business advisors.

Mark J. Stockslager ’82 of Alpharetta, Ga., is chief financial officer for SunLink Health Systems Inc., which provides facilities, services, products, physicians and health professionals for residents of rural communities in four Southern states.

Lon E. Mast ’86 of South Bend, Ind., is president of EarthWay Products Inc., which manufactures lawn and garden equipment. Mast served as the company’s controller for 13 years and as director of counseling and orientation for Buffalo State College of State University of New York.

Mark Robison ’86 of Fort Wayne has been named chairman of the board of
directors of Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co. He is president and CEO of the Fort Wayne-based company.

Brian McClelland ’87x of Warsaw, Ind., has opened a new diner in Warsaw – B-Mac’s on Buffalo.

Gretchen Guentert ’89 Butler of Niles, Mich., teaches science and social
studies for River Valley Middle/High School in Three Oaks, Mich. She was
principal of St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School in Niles for three years.

Matthew G. Hirschy ’89 of Fort Wayne has been elected treasurer of
Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co., and has joined its Board of Directors. He also is vice president of finance of the Fort Wayne-based company.

Skip Smeltzer ’89 of New Paris, Ind., was 2008 Assistant Principal of the Year for District 2 of the Indiana Association of School Principals. He is
assistant principal for West Side Middle School in Elkhart, Ind.


Carrie Smith ’91 Crittle of Naperville, Ill., is an early childhood consultant for LaGrange Area Department of Special Education, serving 17 school districts in DuPage and Cook counties in Illinois.

Kelly Coulter ’91 Peckham of Ingalls, Ind., is managing director for the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention of Greater
Indianapolis Inc.

Vanessa Melone ’92 Baughman of Raleigh, N.C., has opened a pottery studio and gallery, Branded Vessels Pottery, in Raleigh, which features her work. Thirty percent of a fall open house that featured her work went to charity, and buyers also are off ered charity options. Her website is:

Kevin Bostic ’92 of Kokomo, Ind., is interim vice chancellor of the Logansport campus of Ivy Tech Community College. He previously was associate vice chancellor of student affairs for that campus and executive director of finance for the Kokomo region.

Stephanie Cassel ’94 Farquer of Metamora, Ill., is administrative assistant for special events for Illinois Central College in East Peoria.

Stacey Willbur ’94 of Franklin, Tenn., is senior creative director for Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing in Nashville, working with songwriters
and artists in the music community. She recently marketed the No. 1 song for Carrie Underwood and a new Rascal Flatts song.

Stephanie J. Beery ’95 of Ithaca, N.Y., spent a year studying philosophy at
St. Andrews University in Scotland, then completed a master’s degree in
comparative religion at Iliff School of Theology in Denver that included a
summer in Tibetan study at the University of Virginia followed by a semester in Nepal, where she helped resettle refugees from Tibet. She works for the Office of the Provost at Cornell University.

Mindy Moore ’96x Martynowicz of North Manchester is executive director of the Fulton County Council on Aging in Rochester, Ind.

Dana Nixon ‘96 of Quilcene, Wash., on the Olympic Peninsula, has started her own organic vegetable and fruit farm business on land she is leasing. A certified yoga instructor, she also teaches classes on the farm.

Cortland D. Stevens ’96 of Elgin, Ill., is planning a road trip along Route 66, starting in Elgin on Sept. 5 and ending in California on Sept. 16, and is hoping interested MC alumni will join him for portions of or the entire journey. Damon Gleim ’97 of Middlebury, Ind., received his MBA from Indiana
Wesleyan University in April 2008. He is operations manager for Star Fleet

Jason Kendall ’99 of Kokomo, Ind., is a registered representative for Successful Financial Strategies Inc. investment advisory service.

Shawn Kobb ’99 finished his tour in April as a Foreign Service Officer (diplomat) in the Ukraine for the U.S. Department of State, and plans to head to the Bahamas in fall 2009.

Phaedra Sumpter ’99 Kunik of Athens, Greece is a college counselor for juniors and seniors at the American School of Athens.

Jennifer Rixman ’01 Myers of Ligonier, Ind., is on an 11-month ministry trip with World Race Project in 11 countries, focusing on discipline and working in orphan care, hospital visits, teaching, disaster relief, church planting and other roles.

Jen Bruhler ’02 of Wilmington, Del., is parks and forestry outreach manager for the Delaware Center for Horticulture, working with community and municipal partners to beautify local parks. She also is working to create a sustainable urban forest and a tree canopy goal for the city.

James Butler ’02 of Austin, Texas is serving a one-year assignment in Namibia as a WorldTeach volunteer, training teachers in math, English, science, computer science and other subjects. He spent the previous 6½
years teaching inner-city kindergartners in Austin.

Miranda Miller ’02 Sipe of Peru, Ind., is seeking a master’s degree in counseling at Huntington University.

Wade Jagger ’03 of Syracuse, Ind., finished the principal licensure program at Indiana Wesleyan University in May 2008 and is dean of students for Fairfield Jr./Sr. High School in Goshen.

Amber Chance ’04 of Greenwood, Ind., received her CPA license in October
2008 and is employed by Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP certified public accountants in Indianapolis.

Maria Contreras ’04 Garcia of Bremen, Ind., teaches half-day kindergarten at Bremen Elementary School.

Becky Moening ’04 of New Haven, Ind., teaches mathematics at Woodlan Jr/ Sr High School for East Allen County Schools. She ran her first marathon in October.

Monica Rice ’04 of Richmond, Ind., is studying for a master’s degree at
Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond.

Ashley Matusak ’05 Angel of Hamilton, Ohio is a middle school teacher and

Brett Bultemeier ’05 of Alachua, Fla., is a graduate research assistant at
University of Florida in Gainesville. He received his master’s degree in
agronomy in 2008 from the University of Florida, where he is working on a Ph.D. in agronomy.

Megan Wenger ’05 Bultemeier of Alachua, Fla., teaches fifth grade for
Idylwild Elementary School in Gainesville.

Allen Castle ’05 of Louisville, Ky., is a PGA professional for Hunting Creek Country Club. He recently completed the PGA professional golf program,
earning membership in the PGA.

Elizabeth Weybright ’06 Augustine of Columbia City, Ind., plans to receive a master’s degree in organizational leadership and supervision from Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne in spring 2009.
