Dean Sharfman’s List is out. We’ve 100 students on the Dean’s List for fall 2006. Here’s the link to the list, or travel through Manchester’s home page.

Want to feel like a true insider? Check out the new SpartanCams inside the College Union! Yup, in addition to the southern view from the top of Garver Hall, we’ve got cameras set up in the huge Haist Commons (looks like they’re getting ready for some painting), and facing the kitchen/serving area. Here’s the link to all of our SpartanCams, which we always can find on the home page.

97.5% of our 2006 grads are employed, in school, doing service, or not seeking employment. That’s our best success in five years, and cements a five-year average of 96 percent! This is no estimate … we have tracked down all but one grad! Spread the word: An education at Manchester College gets results.

Expect some smiles at the All-Staff meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 17, as we celebrate the service of plumber Doug Campbell (picture), 30 years, and Registrar Lila Hammer, 10 years. The goodies and gabbing begin at 7:30 a.m.; the meeting begins at 8 a.m. in Wine recital Hall. Also on the agenda: what we’re doing with the Communication Building, performance evaluations and an enrollment update.

We have three new Trustees, effective Jan. 1. Welcome to the fold:

Mary Ann Merryman – professor and chair of the Department of Business Administration and Economics at Saint Mary’s College at Notre Dame. A Trustee-At-Large serving on the Academic Affairs Committee, she is a 1976 grad.

Lowell Taylor – superintendent of Forrestville Valley Schools in Illinois. The Alumni Trustee (1991 grad) also serves on the Academic Affairs Committee.

Charles Winger – retired financial executive for Cinergy Corp., living in Loveland, Ohio. A Trustee-At-Large serving on the Financial Affairs Committee, he is a 1967 grad.

Find Your Place … Hopefully, this tagline is beginning to look familiar. It is the beginning of a marketing campaign wrapped around the results of extensive research on what our target students and their parents are seeking in a college. A PowerPoint template with the logos is available for faculty and staff presentations (on whatever topic) … check it out in the Communication and Marketing folder on your U Drive.

Join the Koinonia Owl Prowl on Monday, Jan. 29. Jerry Sweeten (biology) will attempt to call out owls nesting in our Environmental Center for our observation and amusement. This is the twitterpating season, so the owls may not be so amused by who’s screeching. Jerry and Koinonia Director Rainn MacPhail are working together on this free public program and night hike. Here’s the story.

Welcome to the Manchester community! Olivier Thouvenot, Tennis Coach Intern; Michael E. Smith, Religion and Philosophy lecturer

Know a senior who knocks your socks off? One who gets good grades, is a leader and an all-around nice person? Maybe you know two or three … this is Manchester, after all! Staff and faculty are invited to nominate students for the Capstone Outstanding Senior Leadership Award, which recognizes a student who has contributed significantly to the quality of campus life throughout his or her years at Manchester College.  Send your nomination letter that describes why the student exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding leader to the Award Selection Committee, c/o Dottie Young at dsyoung@manchester.edu. The deadline is Monday, Feb. 19.

What’s for lunch? Or dinner? Just tap that “This Week’s Menus” button on the Current Students page and zap – Chartwells menus that will change every Monday. Wednesday it’s catfish, grilled cheeseburgers, spicy curried chicken … yum!

TIAA-CREF deposit update: Client services reports that TIAA-CREF has received all of Manchester College’s deposits on our behalf and has duly credited them through the end of 2006. Our last quarterly statement (as of Dec. 6, 2006) is missing the last three deposits. TIAA-CREF has apologized and promises that its error will not affect our account values. Because so many colleges and universities are involved, they cannot produce corrected quarterly statements.

Take me to Spartan Weekly!

Oldies but still goodies from recent MEMOs

Planning events that belong on the web campus calendar? Please send them to the MEMO Lady as soon as you set the date and she’ll get them posted! (Tell her about errors, too!)

Want to buy lots of something? Need to do price comparisons, file a credit application with a new vendor, see if we can buy something cheaper … ask the Purchasing Office! This new office, led by Quentin Moudy in the garden level of the Ad Building (Room 9), stands ready to free us from the challenges of purchasing, and, of course, to get our purchase orders. x5267.

Mark your calendars! for the all-staff meetings, when we’ll recognize service, learn what's going on, do a Q&A with President Switzer and chuckle a bit, although not necessarily in that order. All of the 45-minute meetings start promptly at 8 a.m., with coffee and sweets the half-hour beforehand to give us a chance to chat up folks from other parts of campus we rarely see.
