Roads are bad.
Faculty and staff trapped in North Manchester may find a room in one
of our residence halls, first-come, first-served through Conference
Services. Because of the weather emergency, there is no charge to
us. Contact
Alexis Young at x5246 or
Jeff Kock at x5247 to reserve a room.
If
the College closes, check the
website of WPTA-TV, 21 Alive in Fort Wayne website

for the announcement. We will also post an all-campus e-mail of the
announcement.
But we are a residential facility with students to serve. Those in
critical positions should make every effort to ensure we have key
personnel in place.
Football
defensive coordinator Ron Planz garnered great Indianapolis
publicity for MC when he was checking out
potential students at the state’s first football combine for high
school athletes last Saturday. WISH-TV Indianapolis interviewed him
for the 6:30 news broadcast. “It was a lot of fun. I tried to plug
Manchester as much as I could,” said Ron.
Here’s the story on the TV 8 website.
As the College
develops a campus-wide enrollment strategy
that closely links student retention with cultivation
of future students, we congratulate our new dean of enrollment –
Stuart Jones. Stuart, who wears many hats on campus, will continue
to lead Career Services until that department is fully staffed
again.
Here’s the story.
An MC grad
showed up in photos from Capitol Hill as
the director of the Office of Management and Budget testified before
the House Budge Committee on Feb. 6.
Here is a link to the Reuters photo of the testimony, with 1999
political science/Spanish grad Dustin Brown in the background.
Dustin, an aide and program examiner for the Budget Office,
contributed to the budget proposed by President Bush.
Two of our faculty are guest speakers
at chapel this Wednesday,
when the topic is “What Gives My Life Meaning?” Glenn Sharfman
(academic affairs/history) and Cheri Krueckeberg (social
work/gerontology) are featured. Staff and faculty always are warmly
invited to join students for Wednesday chapels, 10 a.m. in
Petersime.

Commencement is
on our minds, already, as we fill seniors’
heads and mailboxes with important details and procedures they must
know to graduate on May 20. Not the least of the e-mails will be
the Registrar’s graduation audit (Am I going to graduate?), which
will go out before spring break. Here’s the
Commencement 2007 website with everything seniors need to know,
from caps/gowns to financial aid exit counseling,
We begin Round
Table Discussions for faculty and staff
to meet with members of the Cabinet on Monday,
Feb. 26 … with a discussion about fund-raising for the College
hosted by Michael Eastman, vice president for College advancement.
We’ll gather 2 to 3 p.m. in Science Center 101 for “Fundraising:
It’s All About Cash.” We’ll have a 20-minute presentation, followed
by Q & A.
Pick Up The Tab
Day is March 15. That’s the day when
Manchester College’s donors pick up the tab for the remainder of our
students’ 2006-2007 education. College Advancement is using the day
to raise awareness among students of the importance of philanthropy
and of the impact of the gifts of others on their lives. Golf and
giving unite for PUTT (Pick Up The Tab) Day, at lunch time at the
College Union.

Students work with outstanding upper-class students who understand
and want to help. Coordinating this project is
Denise Howe, who reminds us to remind students to start with
their course teacher. Please encourage
students to use this resource. Tutoring is a service for scholars,
not for just struggling students!
The other side
of artist Karen Klimpert ’85 is on display in Link Gallery
through February. About two dozen oils and mixed-media “plaques” are
up. Some may recall
a recent display of her work to illustrate the Danse Macabre
music of the Manchester Symphony Orchestra at Halloween. Karen is
pleased for the opportunity to show she is not obsessed with
cemeteries!
Our A Cappella
Choir travels Sunday, Feb. 25 to Warsaw.
The Rodeheaver Series for the Performing Arts will present our choir
in concert at the First United Methodist Church in downtown Warsaw.
Here’s the story. The choir continues to raise funds for its May
residency at Carnegie Hall.
The Vagina
Monologues are on our
calendar again, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday,
Feb. 23 in Cordier. Those wishing to participate should contact
Cori Miner or
Kacie Gauby, who have not determined the charity yet. For more

Three
of our students have five works in the juried
Northeast Indiana College Student Art Exhibition. Our students’
entries ranged from
ceramics, watercolor, gouache and bookmaking to drawing and painting
on plaster. The free exhibition is Feb. 16 to March 2 in the IPFW
Visual Arts Gallery, with a 4-6 p.m. reception next Saturday, Feb.
17 (juror comments/awards at 5 p.m.).

Thanks to Thelma Rohrer (art), who has
worked lovingly as a member
of this arts consortium of
regional colleges to strengthen our student learning experiences, to
help young artists build resumes and establish connections, and to
share this exciting level of new creativity with the public.
Congratulations
to Leonard Williams (political science), whose article
“Abundance, Lack, and Identity” has been accepted for publication in
the June 2007 issue of the Journal of Political Ideologies.
Leonard studied the autobiographical discourses of ideological
apostates David Brock and David Horowitz as a means to understand
processes of identification and ideological change.
The Manchester
Investment Club will have its monthly
meeting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21 in the College Union

Wow! Yea!
Kudos
You’re Awesome! Thanks!
Kudos to
Jenny
Birner (business) and
Terri
Jones
(president’s office) for preparing the PowerPoint
presentation for the president’s convocation address Monday. One of
Terri’s professional development goals for 2007 is to learn more
about PowerPoint, so they teamed up and Jenny taught Terri the
basics. “This was a good team effort and a way to learn from a
colleague,” notes Jo. Thanks to both for a great set of pictures and
illustrations that kept students focused on the meaning of Jo’s and
our “I found” student’s comments.
Take me to Spartan Weekly!

Here’s a link to the spring
convocation schedule. Just click on the schedule for

Imagine … Valentine’s Day underground! Nope, we’re not
confusing Wednesday, Feb. 14 with Groundhog’s Day. The SOC* lunch
this month features a tour of the tunnels. We’ll start with a
bring-your-own lunch at noon in the Cordier south lobby, then Dave
Good will take us truly inside campus. RSVP
