An entire new voice mail system will NOT be up and running Monday. It likely will not arrive until next week. Answering machines are telling callers our voice mail does not work and are giving an emergency number. Callers are urged to use e-mail if they cannot connect with us on initial calls. When the new system does arrive, and is installed, plan to record new greetings, set passwords, etc. Expect great new features our aged CallPilot lacked. Expect to hear from ITS leader Michael Case.

Financial aid packages go in the mail today, triggering a massive follow-up by staff from admissions, financial aid and the business office. They will begin calling 500 to 600 families of prospective students during the evening hours March 20-28.

Spring Break trips … our students (and faculty and friends) are traveling to Blount County, Tennessee to work on three houses with Habitat for Humanity, and to northeast Georgia to join the Jubilee community for refugees fleeing war-torn areas of the world. Here's more about the trips or visit our home page.

Early Alert alert … Do not hesitate to give our Early Alert people a heads-up about struggling students. Our team stands ready to help students with academic, emotional, family, personal, adjustment, behavior and physical challenges. We are not using this service enough! Anybody can refer a student to EarlyAlert: EarlyAlert@manchester.edu Questions? Danette Norman Till, x5306.

Dean’s List nails down GPA to 3.5. So students know exactly what it takes to achieve this academic honor, Dean Sharfman, with approval from the Academic Policy Committee, has dropped the former “top 10 percent of the graduating class” rule. Students must complete at least 12 semester hours with a 3.5 or higher to make the Dean’s List. For more detail, contact the Office of Academic Affairs.

Students, staff and faculty took putter in hand Thursday to celebrate donors who support the College in so many ways. It was Pick Up The Tab day – marking that point in the academic year when state and federal aid to students is depleted and our donors take over the cost of tuition, etc. Those who putted won CHOCOLATE for their efforts, thanks to the folks in College Advancement.

About those grades … MCConnect is now available for mid-semester grade entry through Tuesday, March 27. It is not available Tuesday morning, March 20, as we upgrade the software at that time. Hard-copy grade rosters are due no later than 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 27. Note new grade entry details; contact Registrar Lila if you lost/deleted her e-mail.

EZLabor supervisors of hourly employees who use the time clocks might want to clean up any missed swipes during our Daylight Savings Time updates and correct times now, before the rush of the end of the pay period. Times of those who use a computer to clock in should be OK. Send questions to Mike Leckrone, senior accountant.

Opera workshops are for training students in the challenges of opera, but we get the dessert, when the Music Department presents A Night at the Opera with a little Menotti, a little Mozart and a little Verdi (all in English) at 7:30 p.m. March 30-31 and 3 p.m. April 1 in Wine Recital Hall.

Church of the Brethren district executives for Michigan, Illinois/Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana will visit campus April 4. They will attend chapel and meet with President Switzer and others. We are invited to meet/greet them in the Chapel lounge following the service or at noon lunch in the College Union.

70 young vocalists and musicians will audition for scholarships before our Music Department, which will work with Admissions on the campus event March 30-31.

Mail call! Does your department or College-based organization send out an e-newsletter to alumni and friends? Kenapocomoco, Accounting and Business, Education, Spartan Connections … who else does? Let Jeri Kornegay know, please, so we can link our forthcoming alumni e-newsletter to your newsletter.

Once again, the College is suffering the costly theft of campus banners from mall posts, and a chair. They disappeared last weekend. It’s a felony, not a prank; North Manchester Police are involved. To report information, call 982-5999 or the Confidential Tip Line, 982-5995. The College is offering a $100 reward.

Committing the College to a vendor contract? All contracts involving the College and any outside vendor or business must first have the approval of Jack Gochenaur, treasurer. Allow two business days for the review.

Five of our students are Outstanding Future Educators, who will be honored April 13 by the Indiana Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. They were selected from 49 of our student teachers for their teaching reputation, academic skills and recommendations from their supervisors: Nikki Sieracki (Memorial Park Middle School, Arlington Elementary), Miranda Ford (Snider High School, Blackhawk Middle School, Fort Wayne), Meganmarie Pinkerton (South Whitley Elementary), Allison Kesteloot (South Whitley Elementary) and Ryan Evans (Manchester Jr./Sr. High).

19 students “fully engaged” at the Harvard National Model United Nations, which drew 2,650 students, faculty and media to the prestigious international conference in Boston, reports faculty advisor Benson Onyeji. Representing the Congo or Sudan, our students served on committees that passed resolutions ranging from Iran’s nuclear ambition, the war in Iraq and human trafficking to the spread of HIV and other infectious diseases, reports faculty advisor Benson Onyeji. Here’s the story.

Congratulations to Jim Falkiner (entrepreneurship), who was selected to participate in “Business and the Liberal Arts: Integrating Professional and Liberal Education,” a May 3-5 symposium in Chicago sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges

Our students are published, too! Junior Erin McComas had four of her articles published in the new Fort Wayne magazine of Arts United, Expressions, and additional articles are forthcoming in Fort Wayne Woman. Her internship was with Providence Communications, thanks to connections forged by Liz Bushnell (career services).

The annual Easter Basket Drive of the Northeast Indiana Alumni Directors Consortium is under way. Gary Montel is leading the MC drive. The goal for the eight colleges is 400 Easter baskets for delivery by SCAN for under-privileged children. To participate, fill a basket with commercially wrapped items (nothing homemade), and then wrap the entire basket. Drop it off at our Alumni Office, in the basement of the Ad Building, by April 2.
