The International Fair needs our help to set up and clean up after the expected 1,000 guests. contact Alan Michielson (residence life) to sign up for one or more or lots of time slots. Today please, if you can. The event is this Sunday afternoon.

 

Our Board of Trustees gathers on campus next Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, for the spring meeting. We are welcome at four of the Friday committee meetings (1:30 to 3:30 p.m.). The Board Briefing Book is available in Funderburg Library.

Juried Student Art Show is up in Link Gallery. Painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, weaving, batiks and deconstructed books …. 44 artworks by students at all levels in art and arts-related courses this academic year. The jurors are Art Department faculty members  Jim Adams, Ejenobo Oke and Thelma Rohrer. The show surrounding Wine Recital Hall ends April 30.

The International Fair is one of those you-won’t-want-to-miss experiences. Click here for a story about the 2008 International Fair on campus this Sunday, April 13, from noon to 5 p.m.

 

Learn how Funderburg is for our staff, too! The April SOC* lunch is in the library this Thursday, April 10. Bring your lunch; beverages and cookies provided.  Expect a ghost or two, and some lessons from Jill Lichtsinn and Linda Richards. The gathering begins at noon, downstairs. * Staff Organization Committee

 

Counseling with Bowen Center. A representative will be on campus at lunchtime next Wednesday, April 16, in the Plowshares Library, 206 Calvin Ulrey. This confidential service is free to all College employees, for the first five sessions. The Bowen Center representative also will be on campus Aug. 20 and Nov. 19. The schedule is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. all days.

 

Spartan Day is April 23. High school students are invited to a special day tailored just for them at Manchester College later this month. Lots of faculty and staff pitch in on this important day. Tell a student about Manchester College! Invite them to schedule a visit. Here are the details 

 

Visit the Art Institute of Chicago with alumni, friends and Jim & Thelma on Wednesday, April 30. The trip includes exhibits of the works of Edward Hopper and  Winslow Homer, with Jim Adams and Thelma Rohrer as our guides – or just spend the day sightseeing and shopping. Cost is $75 for the art trip; $55 just for transportation. (Art students pay $20.) The bus leaves the College Union at 8 a.m., returning about 9:30 p.m., MC time. There’s a Warsaw stop, too. 2008-2009 Schedule of Classes. Be sure to check the schedules on the Registrar’s website often as it can change with corrections, deletions and additions. Encourage advisees to do so also. Questions: x5234.

 

Online registration begins for sophomores next Monday, April 14. First-year students will have access April 16-18. In-person registration in the Registrar’s Office continues at the same time. Test phases of this new system went quite smoothly, reports Registrar Lila! Returning seniors, juniors and a few sophomores may register online after the 14th but must have their paperwork in. Here’s the schedule for in-person registration in the Registrar’s Office. Advisors are key to the success of online registration: Without faculty authorization, students cannot register online. In MCConnect, click on the “Authorize Advisee Registration.”

 

Volunteers are needed this Saturday at The Firehouse to help install energy-efficient heating and flooring in the youth music center downtown North Manchester. Contact our Office of Volunteer Services to join the list of those helping to restore the fire-destroyed building. Several  shifts are available between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 12. Actually, it’s not an oxymoron: Innovation in Government. We’re invited to hear former Fort Wayne Mayor Graham Richard discuss his “High Performance Government Network” at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23. The program in the Café of the College Union belongs to the Innovation Coffee House of the Johnston Entrepreneurship Program. Fort Wayne City Council Member Glynn Hines ’73 will join us.

We’ll unite again to Spruce Up campus, but the Staff Organization Committee (SOC) wants to know our suggestions for the work days schedule. Let Allison Keating know the dates that would work best in your areas, x5432 

Now’s the time to schedule facilities for 2008-2009 meetings, events, etc. with Conference Services in its first-come, first-serve system. Simply fill out the Virtual Event Management System (VEMS) form or send an e-mail request to Paula Finton. All requests must be in writing.

 

Trim your cell bills, maybe. Many cellular providers offer discounts to education employees. Centennial does, for example. You’ll need to show your College ID. Thanks to Tami Hoagland (athletics) for the tip!

 

Don’t be shy, writers: Share your published work with The Writing Center and Funderburg Library. Is it a children’s book? A cookbook? Poetry? Research? Memoir? Self-published? Contact Tamara O’Hearn in The Writing Center, in the Success Center.

 

The Association of International Educators annual conference May 25-30 in Washington, D.C., is expected to attract 8,000 attendees from more than 100 countries, including Thelma Rohrer (art, international studies, academic enrichment), Jackie Nagila (multicultural affairs, diversity) and Sandy Bendsen (Success Center, enrollment).
