Students will find the Success Center
in the College Union
next fall, with Career Services. The goal is to make success
accessible for all students, to improve retention and stretching.
Students will find a complete support system upstairs at the
Union, and can drift out to the booths and other areas
with their tutors. Student Activities will make the former Campus
Store digs in Calvin Ulrey a true home, where they can make noise,
spread out, and have lots of storage room. Health and counseling
services will remain in Calvin Ulrey.
SpartanLine and CampusLine,
those telephone bulletin boards for athletics and current events,
remain among the casualties of the voice mail changeover. Soon, we
will have them up and running again, but with different numbers.
Sorry, the old number died with the system, and is unavailable.
Meanwhile,
www.manchester.edu will always be the best source of
information.
Our trustees are on campus this week,
for their annual spring session. Many have preview meetings, but all
have a full day Friday and a half-day Saturday. We’re invited to
join them for breakfast Friday in Haist Commons and to sit in on
four committee meetings. The Board Briefing Book is on the reserve
in the library. Breakfast starts at 8 a.m., with room for 15 faculty
and 15 staff members. Let
Terri Jones (president’s office) know no later than Tuesday. The
committee meetings are 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, no reservations
necessary:

Need somebody to talk to? A representative from Bowen
Center
is on campus at lunch time this Wednesday, April 18. Just stop by
the Plowshares Library in Room 206 of Calvin Ulrey, from 11:30 a.m.
to 1 p.m. The first five sessions of this employee assistance
program are paid for by the College. It’s completely confidential.

“I’m pretty darn happy,” says Gina
Voelz, our director of student financial services, who on
Saturday, June 2 becomes a full-time mommie. Gina and Brad gave
their family a lovely Easter gift with the announcement to daughters
Kate, 10, and Emily, 13, who are jumping with delight. Cutting our
apron strings with Gina, who knows where all the student financial
aid nooks and crannies are, will be tough for the Manchester family.
She’s served the College and its mission for 10 years (total), but
just read the contentment on her face about this fabulous decision
for the Voelz family!
Sorry, players can’t wear sandals
at the 4th annual Basketball game between Peace Studies
and the Accounting and Business department. The tip-off is at 8 p.m.
on Tuesday, April 24 in the PERC. Cheerleaders are sought for both
teams, as well as players. Laughing permitted, heckling permitted,
odds-making is not.
Our new Campus Store is filled with all kinds of tempting
“stuff,” from shelves and shelves of books, to clothing
and study supplies. The latest additions are convenience store items
for everyday survival, like shampoo or Tylenol or toothpaste. Here’s
a fun link to
SpartanCam5,
of the store. Speaking of convenience, the Campus Store is open
seven days a week:
9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Monday through Friday
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Our
marketing campaign is personal,
filled with testimonials. The Marketing Committee is hoping
those stories students are telling at
myplace@mc will inspire staff and faculty to add their
stories.
Click on this link
and read a profile or two. If those stories inspire you to explain
your passion for this place, e-mail webmaster
Dan Chudzynski,
with your “At Manchester, I found …” Add your name,
position, where you originally came from, when you started at MC,
and your favorite thing about MC. Attach a photo, if you have one.

Lady Carolyn Rohrer’s last day was Friday.
She always replied
to MEMO with a
J,
even when she was in the midst of moving the mailroom or shuffling
huge piles of "give-to-everybody" mail. Direct mail inquiries now to
the Campus Store, where stamps are available and packages will be
received. Farewell, dear Mail Lady, we’ll miss your smile.

Peace Studies intern Ben Leiter ’06 is headed back to

Centroamerican, sponsored by the North Manchester Rotary.
It’s a musical,
it’s theatre in the round, and it promises to be a hoot …
the spring offering of our Theatre and Music departments.
I Love You, You’re Perfect,
Now Change, is the name of the musical comedy directed by Scott
Strode (theater) and Debra Lynn (music). The curtain rises at 8 p.m.
Thursday through Saturday, May 3-5 in Wampler.

Help ITS prepare its lab computers for
your software
needs by giving them a heads-up. They’ll want to test your software
on Vista

academic year. Faculty should forward anticipated software needs to

Wow!
Yea!
Kudos You’re
Awesome! Thanks!
Kudos to
Robin Gratz
(library), Tom Jarman
(ESS) and Martha Judge
(ESS) for their work on the NCAA self-study submitted this spring.
The self-study is a complex and detailed task, and with leadership
from our faculty athletic representative, Rob Gratz, the excellent
report was submitted on time. The hard-working self-study team now
has a five-year break until the next report is due in 2012!

MC's weekly update by Doug Shoemaker, sports information director
Oldies but still goodies from recent MEMOs ...
It’s time to report about events and activities
for the 2007-2008 school year.
Here’s the form to send
to Shanon Green (Student
Activities) so the calendar is complete. Student clubs and
organizations need to get the information in now, so Student
Activities can reserve venues. All other groups make their own
arrangements through Conference Services …
but don’t forget to let
Shanon know the dates for the calendar! Deadline is Monday, May
7.
Send in your volunteer hours!
The Office of Volunteer Services collects and reports on all
community service hours students, faculty and staff complete
during the academic year. The service need not be related to campus.
Did you volunteer at church? Coach Little League? Help out at MC
beyond your regular responsibilities? E-mail where you did your
service and number of hours completed to
ovs@manchester.edu by April
20.
Cubs (or Mariners) fans will want to join A Day at Wrigley
Field on Thursday, June 14. We have 50 upper deck seats reserved in
infield Section 511. Cost for the bus and tickets is $55, with bus
leaving the College Union at 8:30 a.m., returning at 11 p.m. Lunch
on your own on Navy Pier. Contact the
Alumni Office,
x5223.
Mark your calendars!
for the all-staff meetings, when we’ll recognize service, learn
what's going on, do a Q&A with President Switzer and chuckle a
bit, although not necessarily in that order. All of the
45-minute meetings start promptly at 8 a.m., with coffee and
sweets the half-hour beforehand to give us a chance to chat up
folks from other parts of campus we rarely see.
