Great Scott! Manchester stuffed $5,783.03 in Scott’s receipts in the box in the Education Office for the ABCs for Education program. That collection, coordinated by our Student Education Association, was combined with receipts from friends and Portage Middle School families in Fort Wayne to total almost $206,000. “We were able to purchase microscopes, scanners and even two-way radios” with the resulting Scott’s rewards, reports the ABC coordinator.

Pie, Fruit, and Muffin Day! Bring pie, fruit or muffins to share and join us in the garden level of the Ad Building tomorrow morning! SOC will provide juice and coffee.

9 a.m. — Return as you wish!

Welcome party for newbies … On Thursday, Aug. 24, we will greet those faculty and staff members who have joined us since last September – with a Welcome Reception in the Physicians Atrium of the Science Center. We’ll have special appetizers, a short program and we all will celebrate scores of newcomers to campus. Invitations will arrive later this summer, but the reception is 4 to 6 p.m. with the program at 5 p.m.

Have you seen the web pages for the Department of Modern Languages?!!! Tons of information for students and prospective students and parents, or just the curious. Inspired? Then get crackin’ on your department pages! Susie Sharfman will continue this summer to gather information to help update your pages and work with Webmaster Dan. While some pages have the “look” and are pretty nifty, they list club officers and activities, for example, that are more than a year old.

40 cents that’s our new mileage rate for all personal vehicles (regardless of type), effective July 1. It’s 42 cents for College-owned minivans and 52 cents for College-owned passenger vans.

About that all-staff summer workshop. Perhaps it is appropriate that plans have changed for a way cool all-staff workshop on change originally planned for early June. But lots of scheduling conflicts are delaying the presentation. Stay tuned.

FREE $$$ Remember, once employed by the College for two years, we are eligible to receive a contribution from the College toward the retirement plan TIAA-CREF. The College’s contribution is equal to 7 percent of our gross earnings. However, these contributions will not begin until we enroll. The cost to us is NOTHING, NADA, ZIPPO, ZILTCH. Contact Crysta Borden (x5288) for a TIAA-CREF enrollment packet.  Every day we wait past our two-year anniversary means money LOST to us.

**Employees who would like to contribute to their retirement plan may sign up at any time. There is NO waiting period to begin contributing on your own through payroll deduction. Contact Crysta for a Supplemental TIAA-CREF Retirement packet.

More newbies! Eric R. Dougal, Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach (Sept. 1); Ejenobo “Jena” R. Oke, Art Instructor (Sept. 1); Angela M. Panza, Admissions Counselor (June 26)

Bet those socks stink! If you haven’t cleaned out your locker in PERC, you’re in trouble … All personal belongings had to be out of the lockers before June 28 to make way for summer cleaning and painting. Remaining locks have been or will be cut off. Claim your clothing and other belongings in the Fitness Center. Questions? Contact PERC coordinator, Wayne Chadwick, x5358.

It’s time to start thinking about the Battle of the Bands III, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, on the College mall. To the Manchester College Community, Thank you very much for your kind words and comforting deeds at the time of the passing of Dave’s father, Clyde Switzer. We feel the strength of community and friendship and are enriched by it.       – Dave Switzer, Jo Young Switzer

Dear Friends and Co-workers, I wish to thank those of you who sent their prayers and expressions of sympathy to me for the loss of my dad. The last six months have been very difficult for me and my family – we knew that it was a matter of time, and finally, that time arrived on Friday, June 23rd at 9:05 a.m. As sad as we are that we will no longer have him with us, we are also thankful that he no longer has to suffer. The plant that was sent from the College was beautiful, as were the many cards that I received. I feel truly blessed to be part of such a caring community. Thank you.     – Jo Ellen Bradley

The Manchester Investment Club will meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19 in Funderburg Library. There will be money to spend. The yearly per-share gain was 9.4 percent as of May 32, 2006. Prospective faculty and staff members are welcome.    – Richard Harshbarger, Treasurer

Lots of important HR stuff … Check it out:

New Insurance Identification Cards, new ID numbers. Everyone should have received their new ID card from Group Administrators by now. Please note that our individual ID number HAS BEEN CHANGED to further protect our privacy. Group Administrators no longer will use our Social Security number as our ID number. Don’t forget to provide your new ID number to your providers. Any claims made since June 1 must include your new identification number. Contact any providers you have used since June 1 and provide them with your new number.

To access the Group Administrators website (www.groupadministrators.com), enter your new ID number as your user ID and the last four digits of your Social Security number the first time you log on. You’ll then be prompted to change your password. (Those who already have changed their password will retain that password; only the user ID will change.)

Attendance Reports. The attendance reports issued to non-exempt employees does NOT contain wellness holiday information. If you have earned your wellness holiday and have not used it, do so prior to Sept. 1. This benefit day does not rollover. Turn in your wellness card to your supervisor, who will turn in your card to the business office when you elect to use your holiday.

FORMS! FORMS! FORMS! We said we want more, and here it is! Human Resources has added forms to the HR web page, for our convenience. And, forms are available in the holder hanging outside the Office of Human Resources on the second floor of Calvin Ulrey. What’s there? Well, for a start, health insurance information, change of address forms and tuition remission forms … there’s all kinds of forms! (well, for a lot of us) Here’s the direct link, but we also can get there through the HR home page: http://www.manchester.edu/OHR/forms.htm

Want a particular form put on our website? Contact Human Resources, x5288

Wow!     Yea!   Kudos   You’re Awesome!  Thanks!

SOC thanks President Jo for providing burgers and hotdogs for the Annual Staff Picnic — it’s much appreciated and makes the picnic an affordable endeavor for our committee. Also, many thanks to Chartwells’ staff for helping us create an excellent buffet line and monitoring it throughout the picnic. And many, many thanks to all who prepared food, hosted events, set up tables, chairs, games, equipment, and otherwise. It’s great to experience the end result of a project created with the time and energy of so many people. The Annual Staff Picnic was wonderful fun and a terrific venue for bringing MC’s staff together.

Oldies but still goodies from recent MEMOs …

Scheduling in OutlookThis is a course for beginners as well as those in need of a brief refresher. It will take place in Clark Computer Center’s Training Lab (G104) from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 27.  Contact Allison Keating, x5432 to make your reservation.

Summertime, and the living is eeeeee-zeeeeeee. Actually, it’s EZLabor all the time. Pay periods end on the 8th and 23rd of each month. That means we need to get our EZLabor “stuff” completed by noon the following day. Here are the dates we need to have our time reconciled in EZLabor, by noon, for the rest of the year:

June 9 and 26

July 10 and 24

August 9 and 24

September 11 and 25

October 9 and 24

November 9 and 27

December 11 and 27

Mark your calendars! for the all-staff meetings, intended to update us on College issues and to strengthen our sense of unity and commitment to the Mission. At these meetings, we’ll also recognize service, do a Q&A with President Switzer and chuckle a bit, although not necessarily in that order. All of the 45-minute meetings will start promptly at 8 a.m., with coffee and sweets the half-hour beforehand to give us a chance to chat up folks from other parts of campus we rarely see.
