At
the end of this school year, Neil Wollman leaves us
to work with
Alliance for Ethics and social Responsibility at Bentley
College in Boston. Neil, senior fellow of the Peace Studies
Institute and professor of psychology, will carry his leadership
in the International Graduation Pledge Alliance with him, as
well as the TIAA-CREF social responsibility effort. Neil will
still live in North Manchester with Abby and their children Leo
and Scout. He joined us in 1978.
“The energy, passion and tenacity Neil has
invested in his work in pursuit of the common good have
benefited many people over the years,” notes Tim McElwee (peace
studies). “With thanks for his many contributions to the Peace
Studies Institute, we wish him well in his future efforts.”
Have you seen the

Manchester had the top Student Education Association chapter
in the state
last spring semester, says the Indiana SEA, a student program of
the National Education Association. MC collected the award Oct.
21 at the fall conference of the Indiana SEA. Our chapter had
109 members last spring; they won for their
programs,
active membership, and demonstrated professionalism. We knew
that…
Need student
help fast, just for a little while?
MC has a
Student Temp Pool!
From heavy
lifting to door greeter to general office work, this is the
place to go. HR does the interviews and maintains this pool of
students willing to report to work within a minimum of
12-hours of notice. Two-week max assignments. Just fill out a
Temporary Employee Request Form and e-mail it to
Carrie Makin. EzLabor at $5.25/hr.

We’re spreading Wendi – and church relations – around.
After we’ve mopped up our tears when Wendi
Hutchinson leaves us for wedded bliss and West Lafayette this
spring, many will share her responsibilities. Our pastor,
trustees, President Jo, faculty, staff, admissions … will fill
many of Wendi’s roles to keep our CoB light shining bright at
Manchester. The campus pastor and Jo will share leadership for
church relations; Sandy Bendsen will provide administrative
support. Questions?
Dave McFadden.
What’s a Health
Savings Account?
For some,
it’s a great new solution to rising insurance costs. The College
has lots of other insurance news for us this week, and options.
Everyone eligible for MC health care
benefits must attend one of these sessions,
in Flory Auditorium,
Science Center. Spouses encouraged to attend.
The new plan year begins January 1, 2007. Open enrollment for the new

Students of business and accounting adjunct Randy Holler
are tabulating the results of a recent survey of the Columbia
City Area Chamber of Commerce. The survey sought opinion of
Chamber members and non-members on designing a new strategic
plan.
Here’s a Post & Mail story about the survey. Students
of Holler, of First Federal Savings Bank in Columbia City, are
getting lots of survey experience. They also did a county
election poll.

Say Chet! for
the Aurora yearbook photographer,
who will set up on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Holl-Kintner 101 for
photos of faculty, staff and students. Just show up; no
appointment needed to ensure you likeness is in the yearbook!
Two sessions: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

You’ll want to
read the announcement about our next Campus Pastor,
Steve Crain of Fort Wayne, who moves into the Petersime Chapel
office on July 1. Pastor Jim Chinworth leaves us Jan. 1 to
travel a few blocks to the Manchester Church of the Brethren,
but you knew that! Associate Chaplain Sonia Smith will fill
the Jan. 1-July 1 gap.
Manchester
College Ride Board.
Does that Christmas drive around Chicago have you bummed?
Getting poorer by the mile commuting from Fort Wayne? Somebody
at Manchester may love your company on the drive! The
Drive Board is outside the Mailroom in Holl-Kintner. Drivers
post their destinations and contact information. Riders contact
the drivers to negotiate terms of the ride. This is not a
service of the College, just a vehicle for communication.

It
went kaboom!
This was one of
those convos that you just had to be there. Imagine a ball of
“fire” exploding. Imagine lots of noise. Imagine Dave McFadden
in tall boots and goggles. Imagine Corny Troyer firing up Carl
Strike’s lawnmower … on stage. Powerful stuff, that biodiesel.

Student
Financial Services. That’s what
we’re calling a new teaming up of our financial aid and student
accounts. Makes sense, eh? Gina Voelz is the team leader at this
new one-stop service aimed at retention and student success.
Break out the
Black and Gold, for Manchester College Spartan Day
this Saturday, Nov. 18. That’s when high school students of all ages and their
families/guests visit campus for tours and talks and lunch. If
you know a prospective MC student, send them to our website at
www.manchester.edu, or have them contact our Admissions
folks at 800-852-3648 or
visit@manchester.edu to register.
Congratulations

Development. Meanwhile, she’s working on her bachelor’s degree
in business management at Indiana Wesleyan.
A reminder that
the Office of College Advancement needs to know
about all solicitations for funds for the good of the College
and its organizations. Planning a fund-raiser? Get the go-ahead
from OCA first, at least 30 days in advance. Whether seeking
cash or in-kind gifts, OCA needs to know. Why? Because it’s
OCA’s role to raise funds for the College. That includes
coordinating on-campus and off-campus solicitation.
Check out these
check request holiday dates …
We’ll issue checks next Wednesday before Thanksgiving, with a
Monday, Nov. 20 check request deadline. We’ll issue checks
Thursday, Dec. 21 for the week of Dec. 18 and on Friday, Dec. 29
for the week of Dec. 25, with Wednesday, Dec. 27 the check
request and invoice deadline. (Usually the deadline is Tuesday
for checks to be cut that same week.)
Thanksgiving and Christmas mean payroll reporting deadline
changes.
For
the Nov. 30 paydate, MC will transmit payroll after noon Nov.
27. Therefore, we should complete our EzLabor tasks before
leaving for break on Nov. 22. Our deadline is noon Monday, Nov.
27. Same for the Dec. 29 payroll, which MC will transmit after
noon Dec. 27. Approve all you can before leaving for break on
Dec. 21. Deadline is Dec. 27.
Dear MC Faculty and Staff,
Thank you so much for the cards, gifts and well wishes we
received with the arrival of our new daughter, Lydia. It is such
a blessing to be part of the caring community that is the
College family. We are enjoying our second blessing, though
praying she soon discovers the difference between night and
day! – The Grinsteads

necessarily in that order. All of the 45-minute meetings start
