Planning a
campus holiday party for all of us???
Tell the MEMO
Lady, please!
For everything there is a season … next Wednesday, Nov. 29
we and especially students will gather to celebrate the calling of
Pastor Jim Chinworth to Manchester College, followed by a
reception. In Jim’s words: “I will miss
it all, and all of you, very much.” On Wednesday, Dec. 6, Jim
will deliver his last message as our pastor. The next afternoon, we
will gather for a Farewell Reception outside Flory Auditorium. Eats,
of course.
Here’s the story. Here’s the schedule:
10 a.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 29 – Service to honor
and give space to
leave taking, and reception
10 a.m.,
Wednesday, Dec. 6 – Jim’s last service as campus pastor
3:30 to 5 p.m.,
Thursday, Dec. 7 – Farewell Reception
If
Diane Baker (accounts payable) looks a little puddle-eyed lately,
she’s got great reason. After more than 30
years, she’s just hooked up with her “baby brother” Richard.
She followed a hunch when she was signing up for Social Security,
and lo!
Richard called her last Friday and now they’re planning on getting
together in Chicago on Dec. 7, when Diane will ride along on our
alumni shopping bus trip. “Don’t expect me do be doing any
shopping!” she says. (Except for more tissues.)
Imagine
how Grandma Moses decorated her Christmas tree …
Gives
you warm, fuzzy thoughts, eh? Ever wonder what our American Chemical
Society chapter might do with a Christmas tree? Some of us know.
It’s time to gather your group, organization, department, team,
class, friends … for some serious tree decorating for our Festival
of Trees! The decorating party starts at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.
28 in the Cordier lobby. Register for a tree by Nov. 20, with
Shanon Green (student activities).
Here’s the form.
Experiencing
the Vibrant Worlds of Manchester College.
American and international students who participated in a cultural
exchange and learning enrichment project will present music, skits
and other demonstrations of lessons they learned at 6 p.m. on
Wednesday, Nov. 29 in Wine Recital Hall. Afterward, they will gather
south of the practice football field to celebrate Guy Fawkes with a
bonfire. Their leader? Beaté Gilliar (English)!
Heritage of the
Wind
is the title of the concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 by our
Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble.
Here’s the story.
Our
residence halls gave out more than treats. Over Halloween, the Residence Hall Association raised $105 from
all five residence halls for charity, reports advisor Nick Marinello.

This
is how many pages we have on our website!!!
Imagine all the cool stuff potential students can find as they click
away on our site! Who knows what all is there?!? Shouldering our web
world is
Dan Chudzynski, x5089 He’s there to help us make the connection.
Let’s give Mike a hand … Those of us who plan to vacate early this
week to stretch the holiday are asked to touch bases with EzLabor
guru
Mike Leckrone. To complete payroll after we’re stuffed and slow,
on Monday, Nov. 27 will take much finesse. Give Mike a call (x5004)
so he can help us clear our plates.
Growing
UP in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited.
That’s the title of the book Norman Jones ‘58x wrote that
readers/reviewers say is a great read about Indiana basketball.
There’s even a chapter on Manchester basketball! Dr. Jones is
visiting us THIS Wednesday, Nov. 22, and will “do” a book-signing in
our Campus Store from 9 to 10 a.m. The store has copies to purchase,
$17.50.
199 …
Here’s another number for us. That’s how many prospective students
have visited us. Enrollment Management hosted 54 students at our
last Spartan Day on Saturday. Thanks to all who helped make it so!
Mark your calendars!
for the all-staff meetings, when we’ll recognize service, learn
what's going on, do a Q&A with President Switzer and chuckle a bit,
although not necessarily in that order. All of the 45-minute
meetings start promptly at 8 a.m., with coffee and sweets the
half-hour beforehand to give us a chance to chat up folks from other
parts of campus we rarely see.

Need to
set up an audio conference with other schools?
Telephone Larry has put the how-to details on the
ITS website:

ITS home page and click on Systems, then Phone System and you
will find the link. You’ll need to schedule your conference with

Presidential publication.
Advancing Women in Leadership
an on-line professional, refereed journal
for women in leadership, has published “Women
College Presidents: Interviews about Journeys and Adaptations”
by Jo Young Switzer. The article appears in the fall 2006 issue.

Barb Ehrhardt’s
brother has just published a book
about his service in Vietnam. “I believe it is a significant work –
worthy of consideration by all of us,” writes Barb (biology),
retired director of Koinonia Environmental and Retreat Center. The
book is It’s My Grenade. Get Your Own! by Robert K. Newcombe.

This also is relative …

with apologies to Scott … the MEMO Lady just unearthed this in her
queue.
Thanks
for your support at this difficult time. During a time like this we learn how much our friends really
mean to us. Your expression of sympathy will always be treasured.

That
20-hour student employee policy is different this week. During Thanksgiving break, students can work up
to eight hours a day on days classes are not in session. That would
be this Wednesday and Friday. Monday and Tuesday hours must be
pro-rated, so students may not work more than eight hours total for
those two days. So, this week, the max is 24 hours. Confused?

Manchester
College Ride Board.
Does that Christmas drive around Chicago have you bummed?
Getting poorer by the mile commuting from Fort Wayne? Somebody
at Manchester may love your company on the drive! The
Drive Board is outside the Mailroom in Holl-Kintner. Drivers
post their destinations and contact information. Riders contact
the drivers to negotiate terms of the ride. This is not a
service of the College, just a vehicle for communication.

A reminder that
the Office of College Advancement needs to know
about all solicitations for funds for the good of the College
and its organizations. Planning a fund-raiser? Get the go-ahead
from OCA first, at least 30 days in advance. Whether seeking
cash or in-kind gifts, OCA needs to know. Why? Because it’s
OCA’s role to raise funds for the College. That includes
coordinating on-campus and off-campus solicitation.
Check out these
check request holiday dates …
We’ll issue checks next Wednesday before Thanksgiving, with a
Monday, Nov. 20 check request deadline. We’ll issue checks
Thursday, Dec. 21 for the week of Dec. 18 and on Friday, Dec. 29
for the week of Dec. 25, with Wednesday, Dec. 27 the check
request and invoice deadline. (Usually the deadline is Tuesday
for checks to be cut that same week.)
Thanksgiving and Christmas mean payroll reporting deadline
changes.
For
the Nov. 30 paydate, MC will transmit payroll after noon Nov.
27. Therefore, we should complete our EzLabor tasks before
leaving for break on Nov. 22. Our deadline is noon Monday, Nov.
27. Same for the Dec. 29 payroll, which MC will transmit after
noon Dec. 27. Approve all you can before leaving for break on
Dec. 21. Deadline is Dec. 27.
